Size of Glasspacks

Currently I have a mainly stock 289 and plan to keep it very mild. I'm puting my Christmas list together and asking for Tri-Y headers and plan to go w/ an "H" pipe w/ glasspacks.

I currently have single exhaust into one glass pack 29" long and 3.5" OD diameter. It really isnt too loud and want to keep the sound and volum similar. Any suggestion on what length and OD diameter of the two glass packs w/ the dual pipe setup.

Also any opinions on the $159.00 Try-Y's.......I cant afford $450 headers.

I'm glad to see someone buying glasspacks. Gotta love that old school sound. I would run a pair of 18 inch or longer glasspacks with 2.25 inch exhaust pipe. What glasspacks are you looking at?

I run the 8" body Cherry Bombs. Then I mount them reversed......due to the inside design. They are loud.... I would say something around an 18". Either way, the sound will change with the addition of the headers and crossover. I get them here... real good service and prices.... I go older school than that. Glasspacks tend to lose their glass over time, and get harsh. Chambered straight-through mufflers don't. These were used from the factory on all 55-56 Corvettes, and were optional up to 1962. They were available even before that, though.

This is why I mount them backwards. The cup design inside catches the exhaust and directs it into the glass. Reversed, that cup is just a bump in the flow and works more like a straight pipe.

I went with the Shelby style side exhaust that uses 30 inch Cherry bomb glass packs. It is not that loud. I also installed an H pipe. Laurel Mountain Mustang - 1965 SHELBY STYLE SIDE EXHAUST, 2 1/4''

I almost bought that kit for my 65. Do you have a video or sound clip of it.

I'm surprised you didn't post this link to Arvinode. I think its a great way to go too. I like this type of chambered exhaust, but its not to be confused it with Blowmaster.

If I had known about this a while back, I might have put it on my car.

Cherry Bomb packs are cool. That would be fine, but like was already mentioned after some time they may loose some packing and become louder.

Oh by the way, if you get headers I would recommend Percy's Seal 4 Good gaskets.

Sweeeet. I hadn't seen the clip of that Arvinode on the K-code Mustang. Here are some sound clips of the Arvinode on an I-6, which is what I'll be going to in the next few months.
