Size tires for 17" wheels???

245/45/17 is a stock height tire (25.68"). 245/40/17 is a full inch shorter.. you may like that on the front (or need it for clearance, if your car is lowered aggressively), but you wouldn't want it just in the rear. Also if you put a shorter/taller wheel in the rear your speedo will be off a bit.. so try to stay close to the stock height. 245/45/17 is perfect, 275/40/17 is stock height too but you may need to pull your quad shocks to get a 275 in.

Yeah in my opinion the perfect combo for 17" wheels is 17x8 in the front with 245/45/17 and 17x9 in the rear with 275/40/17. The tires will fit the wheels perfectly and they are both stock diameter.

Not to steal the thread..
..but do you need to go 17x8 in the front or can you go 17x9 all around? I too plan on getting C springs with 275/40/17 in the rear, but 235/45/17 in the front. With the clearance issue in the back, I plan on getting 1/2" wheel spacer adapters.

I run these same rims with 245/45 and they also rub, the front driver side forward and backing up, also on the ground effecttjm73 said:

The reason I say 17x8 wheels in the front is because if you put a 245/45/17 on a 17x9 wheel.....the tire will actually be a little narrower than the wheel. I prefer the wheel and tire to be dead perfect, if not slightly wider for the tire. That's just me.
How is that possible? 245/25.4=9.65". So what I dont understand is how do you get a narrower tire on the wheel. Is there something more than just doing the math I did and saying "OK I got 9.65 which is larger than 9 so it should fit" Am I completely wrong?maverick0716 said:

I don't really look at the numbers to tell. I know how it will fit in the real world. I work at a tire shop and mount tires all day.
If you want to know what a 245/45/17 looks like on a 17x8 wheel just look at any 99-04 mustang. They use the same combo and its a perfect fit.

i've ran 3 different tire combos on my 88.the first was 225/55 front,235/55 rear.the second was 245/45 all the way around.my current combo is 255/40 front and 275/40 rear.i have the eibach pro springs with no quads on 9s all the round.the front does rub alittle under a full turning radius but thats nothing a small wheel spacer or rack limiters wouldn't solve.

A 235/45/17 will work fine for the front on an 8" wheel. Generally you want to stay within about 2" between the tread width and wheel width, so a 255/45/17 would work fine for the rear. Some guys will tell you they run 275's on an 8" (or even 7") wheel with no problems, but I wouldn't drive around on the highway or cut corners like that. It really depends on the sidewall stiffness of your tire, though.

My 245/45's look perfect on cobra 9" rims. I have a picture but don't know how to post it (fairly new to this stuff). However I am changing to 18's 245 up front 275 or 295 if they will fit out back(new brakes comming).jb89coupe said:
