Well it looks like I will be getting a new job...I am scheduled for a UA tomorrow at 3:15 pm for a job at Vancouver Ford as a salesman...my good buddy works there and put in a good word for me...anyhow this will hopefully be quite the pay increase coming from Burger King...hopefully with any luck I will be a good salesman and make enough money for some serious mods...anyone with lots of selling experience have some good advice I am all ears? anyway just wanted to share what looks to be good fortune...I mean my would be boss said he wants to hire me within the week....so....

congrats on the new job.

just try to convince the people that they NEED the car... Dont try to force a more expencive car onto them to try and make them buy it. That pisses me off the most when I want something, but they want to sell me something that costs more just so they can make a few extra bucks... But they end up with nothing cause I go somewhere else :D

And another thing I will say is always be positive. Many times the salesman will bring up something negative. Like "Your insurance will go up", or something like that.

They will have you take classes to get you prepared. Just pay very close attention, take notes, and study them often. A lot of times, good information is overlooked or not explored. If anything confuses you, don't hesitate to ask.

Be knowledgable about the product. When I go to pick something up from anywhere, if the salesman obviously doesn't know about the item then I know he's just selling me something to move me out of the store and move another customer in. If I come in looking to fulfill certain needs and the salesman can't help, then screw that salesman, I wanna get done what I want, not what he wants.
When people ask for mod advice here, I always ask "what do you want to do with the car? drag it, auto x it, show it, etc." When I worked at Radioshack for commission I would find out their wants and then, cause I damn near memorized the catalogue, I could make intelligent suggestions.
After you establish what the minimum they want is, then you can start the "super-size it?" type suggestions.
Lastly, I know this sounds sexist, but if you can try to sell to women, its WAY easier. Its predatory but hey that DVD package in the Explorer would be great for the kids, ya know? And how about the navigation, don't you hate it when you're lost and are late? If a man and a woman come in together, cater to the woman. All husbands are whipped. Thats all I got for now,

good luck man!

Just a tip that worked for me when I was working at Village Inn...

Whenever your talking to a customer, always try to be a mirror imagine of them (to some extent), it really helps them feel comfortable with you. If they are somewhat quiet, don't talk their ears off. If they are jubilant (sp?), then you should be too.

I know it's a totally different arena than car sales, but my tips damn near doubled after I started doing that :nice:

I have been in sales for 10 years now and I find the biggest thing you can do is not answer a question you are not sure of. Meaning, take the time to do the research and get back to the customer. They will respect you and you will gain their trust from being honest and sincere with them.

Good luck. I'm sure you will do fine.

Not to mention, It will be good to test drive the first 05 when it comes in.
