Sloppy clutch pedal...

I've been having this problem lately... I had it once before, but it quit. The pedal will just get real sloppy for no apparent reason, but after pushing the pedal to the floor several times it goes back to normal. I can only assume that whatever mechanism they use to take up slack in the cable is letting go, and when I push the pedal it eventually takes the slack back up. So, I also assume this is only going to get worse.

Has anyone else had this problem? I absolutely hate the thought of taking my car back to the dealer, even though it's only got 14k miles on it... I was thinking about maybe just getting an aftermarket unit... any thoughts/ideas? I've never messed with a Mustang clutch/cable, and not really wanting to either, but...

I think I'm kinda having the same problem with mine. On the way home one night I got on it pretty good through the 1-2 shift and after that it feels like its got way too much play when you first start to push the clutch in. It still engages fine and everything, but it definately doesnt feel is solid throughout as it did before. I have no idea what could have happened. I tried adjusting the cable, and it made it a little better, but it didnt completely fix it.

yeah, ford uses a crappy plastic ratcheting mechanism and a plastic clutch quadrant. if i were you, i would order the steeda billit quadrant and the firewall adjuster (and while your at it the adjustable cable, they all come in a $100 kit)...i just installed them with my new clutch and everything is TIGHT! And its all billit so you shouldin't have a problem again.

I'm thinking that is my best bet. I really hate taking things back to the dealer... especially if there's a better aftermarket option.

I just found this on sale. Looks to be about the same as the Steeda...

Is there really any advantage to having the adjustable cable? It appears to maybe offer some fine tuning for the pedal height, but if I'm not changing out the clutch, is it really worth the extra effort to install? I'm thinking about just getting the Steed adjuster and quadrant...

There are advantages to aftermarket adjusters. However, since your car is so new, make them fix their product.

It is new and they should fix it...but they're just going to put new plastic parts in. might as well drop the $100 and make the problem go away for good before it breaks again after your warrenty and they wont fix it.

The cable isn't necessary, but its in the kit so why not. Then when you do need a new clutch its already there. I pretty much set it so my clutch and brake pedals were even and havent touched it since, however it makes me feel warm inside knowing that if i feel like it, i can adjust it.

I agree it's new, and I shouldn't have to worry with it, but I hate going back to the dealer for repairs, and I really don't care to have them put another inferior part in it's place.

I got under there last night and pushed up on the quadrant, and it clicked, and all is well for now, but I'll probably end up getting the Steeda or MT kit before long especially if it gets worse...

Try this...

Depress the pedal to the floor, release, then with your toe, pull up on the back side of the pedal. You can do this by hand also. It should adjust the slack and give you a better pedal feel. I activates the racheting mechnism to relieve the slack. If this doesn't work you may need a new one.

for the ratcheting mechanism to engage it has to be in first gear...so make sure it is other wise it wont adjust.
