So im having a problem I just picked up my 96 gt from my mechanic! It was overheating and needed a new clutch cable! So the problem is my daily driver is a 2005 srt4 and its way faster than my GT and I cant be having that! My other problem is I cant spend too much on my Mustang because im buying a new snowmobile this year! So I have to stick to bolt ons for this year! So far I have 4.10's, King cobra clutch, Mac x-pipe and catback, cold air intake, Steeda short shifter, lowering springs thats most of the mods I also have a upr firewall adjuster, line lock, and im running 18inch saleen rims with 285 Sumitomo's out back I have 15inch welds with mt et streets for the track but im gonna sell those and put some nittto 555r's on my Saleens since I rarely go to the track. I also have bbk pullies that I need to put on. So im thinking I can either get long tune headers? shorty headers and run an electronic cut out? Xcal tuner? Alluminum drive shaft? Throttle body and plenum? I dont want to do HCI or nitrous or a blower because of the cost and my engine already has 121k miles on it, so my plan in a few years is to build an engine with a blower prolly no nitrous ever. Right now im willing to spend about a grand on the car. I Would like to get it into the 13's if possible?

i would try a tuner i had mine tuned and it mad a good difference. a throttle body and plenum would be a good choice to but your really not going to get everything out of your mods without a tuner

Well I didnt want to change up my mid pipe so I was thinking I should get decent power from shorties with cutouts no? I know shorty's by themselves only give like 2 hp but with cutouts I should get atleast 10hp I would think

My nephew's SRT-4 feels as fast or faster than my Bullitt because of all the torque steer, but it doesn't translate at the track that way, I'm quite a bit faster than him there. But I've driven his car, and it does "feel" faster when the boost builds.

I would find a set of cheap used PI heads, cams and intake. I know you said no HCI, but just the intake swap onto your current heads is worth more HP gain than the worthless shorty headers.

Yea but what I want to do eventually is build a 2v with a kenne bell and trickflow heads with blower cams so it would be nice to get all the bolt ons now cause I know my trans wont last with too much power!

Do not do cut outs on a 2v... It will hate you.

Honestly, the srt 4 is going to be faster unless you dig into them motor. Its very easy to get those in the high 12's with minimal bolt ons. Its next to impossible to get a na npi 2v in the 13's w/o lots of port work and tearing into the motor.

Pi swap it and don't look back. That thing will scream then. Do your long tubes, o/r exhuast and finish the bolt ons.

Gots to pay to play.

Sell them and get some Steeda pulleys, or just sell them.

Man don't do this, you'll probably regret it.

TFS plenum and FRPP 70mm tb for $190, for starters. Forget the shorties, do your full exhaust now - long-tube headers, midpipe (yeah you'll have to sell your midpipe), catback. And enjoy.

with your mods, a tuner and tb is a complete waste unless you are using the tuner for the gears, you could just get a cheap speedcal. NPI heads and cams really don't flow a lot, and even with PI gear, I am not a fan of TB/plenums.

To runs 13's, you need...

Drag radials
H Pipe
pulleys
Timing adjuster
PI intake(40-50bucks used)

Also, I would lose the cold air intake, I lost power on my car with one.

A 96 GT is slow, shouldnt be surprised The SRT-4 should be quicker but sadly not quick enough to outrun ugly.

Do a PI swap. You can prob get the parts for under $1K. You'll need the heads, cams, and intake ane might even have enough cash for a TB and plenum.

Toss some LT's on top of that and you should be around 300HP flywheel.

That's why I didn't recommend any PI stuff. In fact, scratch the plenum/tb recommendation, and simply do full exhaust. That, or suspension.

But if he stays npi and only does susp work... it MIGHT run high 13's and have no top end what so ever. His srt will STILL be way faster.

If I can get into the high 13's I will be happy with it for now. I want to build an engine eventually. Right now I just dont have the time or space for it because I live with my parents and we have to many toys in our garage so no room for an engine and engine stand. When I get my own house I will be building a sick engine for my stang and I plan to take my time with it so in the mean time I would like to get it into the 13's to hold me off

+1 on the PI intake!! Best mod i ever did to my mustang! My friend has a 2000 with 4.10's Bassani catted X-pipe and catback and he pulls me from 55 i can pull on him not much but a little.. Before he just raped me from a stop raped me from a roll raped me from 55 you name it. I actually have a bit better top end than him now and the car pulls all the way to 6000rpm. My catback did absolutely nothing same with my CAI but like i said the pi intake.... damn!
