SLP Loudmouth Install Questions

My loudmouth exhaust should be here tomorrow, and I plan on installing it myself.

I have a few questions, mainly about getting under the car to do this. I've got a nice floor jack and a pair of 3 ton jackstands... is this going to be enough to get the job done? Also, I've never worked under a unibody vehicle before. Where is the best place to jack the rear up from, and where should I place the jackstands? Will I have trouble getting the pipes around the rear axle?

Anyone who's installed a catback before and can provide advice, please do. It will be much appreciated.

this will be an easy mod!!!! But you'll some stuff.

First get some wood to put behind the front tires. Jack up the rear end by your differential(the pumpkin) place the jack stands under the the axle at equal lengths. Now you're going to need a sawzall or similar to cut away the old pipes. Cut them right where they start to bend after the mufflers.

After you get your old system out the SLP goes in very smooth.

Line up the resonators first to the stock H-pipe. Don't tighten it down all the way, just enough so it wont go anywhere but there is still a lot of play.

now, connect the part that goes over the axle...again don't tighten it down all the way because you're still going to have to line everything up. Just get it "roughed" in there. now the tail pipes.

Install the post into the rubber part on the bumper first. Slide it all the way in, then back it out until it's centered with the bumper cut-outs. and you have it positioned evenly.

Lastly, after you've got everything in place, start tightening it down, but do so once piece at a time working back to front (tail pipe to H-pipe). The hardest part is getting the tail pipes centered and at the correct length. Took me a couple of tries, but everything is centered now!

Thanks. How much harder am I going to make it for myself if I don't cut off what I have now? The previous owner put on some weld in flowmasters and some nice tips... I'd like to be able to sell this setup if I can.

I cut the old crap off just behind the muffs.

Had my SLP on in less then 30 minutes after the old crap was off.

Love the sound, nothing compares.

And no it does not sound like glasspacks.

Some lube on the rubbers will help them slide on and off.

the other way is to get a lift (if u have access to one) and do it that way. i have never taken the stock exhaust apart before (i had a MAC kit on my old 5.0 before i swapped to spintechs). i dont think the tips would clear the axle so it looks like u are gonna have to hack either way. if u are crafty, you may be able to get the stock cat back off without cutting. i know being a mechanic in the air force, i have seen some insanely crafty things happen so anything is possible.

No way in hell the stock crap is coming off withthe rear end in the car.

No room under the car.

I have done over 50 installs, cutting is the answer.

Cut right and the CB can be re welded......

I am a USAF C-17 Crew Chief.............

well, at the urging at my dad (meaning he said he'd pay for it so i dont kill myself or the car), the exhaust is being put on at magic muffler right now.

Just got the car back... it wasn't as loud as I had expected based on what everyone here says. It does sound good though, I don't have the flow drone that I had with my old weld in's... looks good too.

Do you still have the stock h, or what midpipe do you have? It should be loud as hell if you don't have cats anymore.

Still running the stock H pipe. Plan on an SLP X as soon as I pay off this one on the credit card.

I ordered from mustangtuning.com. These guys are great, I got it for $359 shipped. SLP themselves want $399 plus shipping. Mustangtuning is the way to go!

email them and ask. thats what i did, and they got some in last friday. they'll tell you when they expect the next ones in, and you gotta jump on it that day.

It is VERY loud with an o/r pipe. I had an o/r x on mine, and it was sooo loud. I loved it.

After driving around with these on all day, I've decided that they were the right choice

Love the sound, not nearly as intrusive as my flowmasters were, docile at idle, but loud as hell when you step on it, and doesn't sound like every Mustang out here.

My SOTP meter also is telling me that I picked up some power... we'll see when I hit the track in a few weeks.
