I have them and to me they sound awesome. They sound aggressive with out being annoying. They were the first mod I made, I really wanted that oldschool sound. This is just my opinion. I needed more so I added longtubes and a high flow catted h-pipe. To me this setup is ideal, just pushing the limit.
If you pay $350+ for less then 2 feet of straight pipes with some tips, you're out of your mind.
I am a very, very patient e-bay shopper. I paid $100 for a used set, including shipping. The guy I purchased them from was a pretty good guy, he included some chrome polish with them. $350. is a ridicules price. The whole aftermarket industry for 05+ mustangs is really kind of sticking it to us.
I think ,with my set up, it is the best that little 281 will ever sound.
In the beginning I tried an x-pipe with the set up, whooo, what a mistake
It was a very metallic sound and trumpeted from 1000rpm all of the way to the shift, IN EVERY GEAR. IMO the sound was way too ricy and kind of made me cringe when I would hear it. Although a friend of mine , who in no way possesses a favorable opinion of rice, said that he liked it with the X, better than the H-pipe.I guess it's all in what you like to hear. The set up I have now makes me feel like "chirpen brodies and graben gears" when I hear it that X made me want to hand push my GT back in to the garage before some one could see it was me.
