Smog pump vapor canister cap?

Hey guys,

I've been having some CEL issues for the past few years and I can't seem to narrow down the problem. Anywho, does the charcoal canister have to have two caps covering the top two holes? Mine never had any on them. See pictures:

I've seen a buddy's car run just fine for years without the caps.

Mine has them, but some people delete the canister all together with no CEL.

Does anybody know what might happen over time if the caps were missing for years? I'm thinking of just buying a whole new one.

hell u can have my caps, canistors and any other EFI junk u want lol

Unless emissions is a concern rip it out. I hope that you do not have an O/R mid pipe and a smog can.
