Smoked Headlights + HID's = ?

I am not happy with the output of my headlights with my new smoked headlights. I am wanting some HID's. The only thing keeping me from ordering them is not knowing if they will harm my new housings. I hear some say they burn cooler (35 watts vs. 50 watts), but others say they will be hotter (more light gets trapped in the smoked lens causing more heat). Any input on this? For those who run this setup, any problems? Also, I would like them for the fogs as well, but can't find the right ones (893 or 899 I think). Anyone know where to get them? I am buying the others from VVME, just can't beat their pricing. Thanks.

heat isint as big of an issue,i have put 3 differnt kits in my stang and 2 in my accord,
my stang now has a apexcone 50 watt bixenon and heat wise its about the same as halogens maybe even less.one thing i would say though after buying five differnt hid kits spend the money on a 50watt bixenon they are way brighter yet you dont piss off people.and keep in mind you will need to angle them down a little becaue the beam pattern will be more intense and i would buy a 5000k-6000k kit so you actually get alot more light,the apex cone kit i got has high quality digital ballasts,it was only $369 and that was with overnight shipping and an a lifetime warrenty which 6 months ago it was $100 now it freebastards,heres a couple pics of what 5o watt hid looks like.the las one is a comparison between my fogs and hid on a dark refrance,sorry for the rant,i have found out the hard way with real cheap kits

For this "apexcone 50 watt bixenon" - where did you purchase it?
Assuming no modification to the stock housing.....

Ive got a set on my Lightning 6000K and theyre lens is cool to the touch all the time

I have them adjusted, it made a ton of difference. Most of my light is coming from the fogs. Once I get my smoked fogs on (came in broke, waiting on a replacement set), I am afraid I will loose more light, and then be stuck in the same spot, so I wanna go ahead and get the HID's IF they will not cause problems. Lifetime warranty is nice, but it would take a lot of those $80 kits to add up to $350+.

Thanks. I really like that kit, lifetime warranty is awesome. I know it burns brighter, but I am scared of the 35 watt kit producing too much heat, so I am sure the 55 watt one would. Also, the kit from vvme is dual beam for $80, while the other is only low. Do they offer a hi/low kit 9007 kit? I know hi is almost pointless, but I really want it to be right, even if I don't use them. Thanks for the info.

heat isint a problem they burn cooler than a halogen even the 50 watt ones,they do offer a dual beam version it will be more its $215 shiped i think,good luck with your lighting!

Yes, they do run colder. However, I have heard some say that smoked lights trap more light than OEM/Clear. That makes sense, which is why I have reduced lighting. Since a HID produces more light, more light is trapped. More light is more heat. Not saying that is correct, just the way it was explained to me. Which is right? Thanks.

that is probly true,did you smoke the lights or are they aftermarket?if you did them with a spray paint it should have a temprature rating of around 300-500 deg f.
casings will withstand 350 deg f with out melting,so it shoulnt be prob

They are aftermarket BOI smoked lights. I think the 35 watt vvme kit will be a big improvement and do what I want, and also save me some much needed money. Plus, I like having hi/lo beams, so there is even a bigger price difference. Anyone else have an opinion about this? Thanks.
