I have the lenses off, I want to darken them a little and I have heard you can use VHT Nightshades to do this but from the inside or outside is the question. I am guessing from the inside. I want it to look kind of like this but not this dark:

Anyone know?

I've actually heard you apply the VHT NIghtshades to the outside of the lens. The darkness of the tint will be directly related to the number of coats you put on. Also, as a more temporary measure, 3M sells tint tape that you can cut and apply over the lens. It's completely reversible in case you change your mind, as it peels right off. Food for thought at least...

You spray in on the outside, but from what ive heard its best to put a clear coat over it or it will look dull!

I did some research along with some experimenting with putting something dark behind it and found that it has to be on the outside if you want the reflector to be tinted too.

Smoke Tail Lights Tutorial Guide & Accessories - Home

They say to tint, clear, and then wetsand, and then buff out. Saw some pics of how it turned out and wow, awesome. A light tint won't get you in trouble, dark will. I think I'll probally do two coats if I do it at all. They said that would be approx. 35%.

There is no way I would darken my tails on anything I would be driving on the street. Looks awesome for show purposes, but it definitely decreases the visibility to other drivers

I think you are right, plus it's just an excuse for a cop to give you problems. I'll just leave them as Ford intended them to be.

You spray it on the outside and then wet sand and buff, no clear, no painting the inside, just spray on the VHT until it's as dark as you like and then wet sand to get the shine, as it says in the directions.

Also smoked tail light are not illegal, as long as you can visibly see RED, which you can with smoked tails

These are really helpful information that many people learn about what they can do if they have the same problem as this... Thanks for the information.
