i know this isn't exactly tech, but it isn't talk either and i wanted people to see...also i choose satin black over the candy apple red my car is because candy apple red is a multi-stage paint. there is a month of hand work done by me on this thing. enjoy!...PB View attachment 498867 View attachment 498869 View attachment 498871 View attachment 498873 View attachment 498875

Very very nice. Care to elaborate on the process for those who may want to duplicate.

i can tell you this. no welding and no bondo. i used 3M body repair tape. it's a metalic tape with a strong adhesive backing. lots of hi-build primer. lots and lots of hand sanding. eastwood extreme chassis black and a finishline HVLP gun. some might get uppity about my methods but the results are the same. i only had problems one the driver side where the metal was wrinkled from an accident...PB

www.eastwoodco.com originaly i only planned on useing it on the front, where the prop rod sits. there are big holes there. it worked so well there i just used it on everything. i'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. i have to admit it was the first time i used a HVLP gun and the finish is not magazine quality but it looks 1000 times better. there is some more pix on cardomain. thanx for the complements...PB

it's made of metal so it doesn't rip easy, but i would try to jam a pencil into it i pressed them in to the point where it wouldn't flex.

I'd wait a month before I put any wax on it...same as I would for a fresh coat on any car.

Satin is a good choice for an engine bay. Gloss shows everything and flat is too flat.

I dont know how waxing would affect a satin paint. It might not work exactly right. I assume you want to keep the greese down and for easy washing.

BTW looks good.

paul, i choose black because it looks good with red and i didn't want to use a red that wouldn't match my car. candy's are multi-stage, the satin black i used is a single stage paint so no clear coat, or i could be wrong?

nah your prob right - but i dont knwo if they consider satins or flats single stages - single stage means, one stage (shooting the paint) and it comes out as finished product no clearing - i guess if its a satin single stage than yea, but if its glossy than no - whatever it looks badass lol get some pics w/ the paper off so we can see the red up against the black man!

yea don't wax it - just wait at least 30 - 45 days - our cars are actually safe to wax a little sooner, but for warranty and garuntee policy, we always say wait at least 30-45

Nice job! I would stay away from the waxing.....Are you wanting to draw more attention to the bay, enhancing the "wow" factor??? A smooth bay is "wow" enough IMO.
