Ordered some new hub nuts for my Sn95 front hub conversion on my 83 from Tasca a while back
These are different from the " old style " caged nuts and come with some red sort of sealant on the threads.... Just tried to install them and they are awfully tight... It took a 3 ft breaker bar to get them on about halfway and I stopped there..... At first I thought it was the sealant on the threads the nut came with but after I removed the nut, it almost looked like the new nut cut into the threads on my SN 95 spindles......
Any thoughts here?? Can't check part numbers as I apparently discarded the packaging
When I removed the nut I had on halfway, it took the 3 foot breaker bar to get it off also.... I installed the old " caged " nut back on and it was snug at first, but I after a couple of turns it went on and off correctly so I think my spindle threads are OK..... Camera batteries are dead so no pics available...
Has anyone else used these " new style " nuts and what has your experience been with these??

You are in that thread and I would believe what SorsCode said as he is a really good tech. I reused the spindle nuts and have had zero issues.

Thanks for the attachment....... I am going to reuse my caged spindle nuts with some blue locktite.....
I have to agree wth the people saying the threads are different on the new nuts... The applied loctite from Ford on the new ones might be tough , but the first few threads on my spindles look like I took a thread cutter to them.....
thanks again..

Yes, Ford did change the style of nut at some point. The new nut is somewhat universal to many different Fords.

Both my Mustangs have the new nut on them. All 4 installed without issue. I don't recall if they were tight or not but they didn't walk on by hand due to the thread locker applied to the threads.

The part number for the new nuts is F3LY-3B477-A and it listed for 1994-2014 Mustangs, so I assume it's off the later models.

As I said I had to really grunt with a 36" breaker bar to get one side on about 4-5 threads... It really acted like it wanted to stop and not go any further... It was almost as hard getting it back off.....
I do not feel comfortable using the new ones.....
