good morning all, i was wondering if anybody out there knows the throtle body size of a stock 2.3? also i will be adapting a sn95 tb to a 2.3, i have a stock one and a 65MM one any picks? also any pics of the install out there?
A SN95 TB makes the throttle a bit touchy, just fyi. I wouldn't go any larger than the stock SN95 (which is 60mm). I did the mod on my Thunderbird but was a little iffy on it afterward due to the touchiness.
thanks for your answer. i'm ok with the touchyness due to the fact that my car is only used for road course racing. what i'm looking for is more power on the 3000 to 7500 rpm range. she used to kind of run out of power after about 5800 rpm. since then i have upgraded the ignition( which is qood to 10,000 now) 19lb injectors and the header has been ceramic coated. that i my reason for favoring the 65MM one.
Nothing over a stock SN95 TB is EVER needed- even that is worth only a few hp on even a pretty stout engine. People get them for improved throttle response and maybe a tad more top end power. I would not go with a 65mm TB as you would probably have driveability issues with that.
Also the SN95 TB WILL need some adapting, just keep that in mind- a couple bolt holes need redrilled/ground out and the top of the upper intake needs ported out to match up.
EDIT: Wait, I didn't even think about this...is your car NA? If that's the case then a TB upgrade will not be worth the effort, and if your car is speed density it will not be happy with the change either.
yes my car is NA and also it is speed density. yes i know many people have said that speed density would'nt work BUT with all of the mods i have done so far, with plenty of thought and research, the motor has responded very very nicely. even the other guys in my class cant believe how well it does run.AND yes i do have a tuner here in florida that does do the tune for me . the motor is showing that it does want more air in the upper rpm range. with the set up that i have now it DOES rev very freely to the 7000 mark. in my type of racing , especialy with a 4cyl, every little bit of horse power and torgue does help.
