Progress Thread Snow - 93 GT Vert. Prepping for sale

Not sure where you want to go with the car. My car has a BBK pipe in it. I want to go back to stock. I like the look. My goal is a fun steet car. I don't expect to out run the modern stuff with it. I just like the car for what it is. I'd kill myself with a 700 hp no traction control beast.

Ok, there are so many factors that need to be considered when adding power enhancing parts on a naturally aspirated engine, basically what goes in must come out so lets keep it simple, for instance, explorer intake was used on gt40 and gt40p heads, with the stock cam (5.0 ho not the explorer cam) and the 65 or even 70mm throttle body has good torque number down low to get the car moving from a stop, porting the lower can get you a little better hp up top, (upper rpm range) while not a lot you will feel it, remember all this action happens between idle and 6k rpms, pick the right gear, usually a 3.55 for a stick car and a 3.73 for an auto added and you have a fun street driver.
Now start adding a bigger cam and it can change where your torque and hp numbers fall (or should I say rise), too big a head and the intake and throttle body becomes a bottle neck, making the car lazy and slow up top, same with a big cam, you have to be able to move the air in the right amounts at the right time,
Like I said, the explorer intake (with a ported lower), the 65 or 70mm tb and a set of gt40 heads with a 355 or 373 gear out back and you have a fun budget driver. Today you have a good choice of aluminum heads that flow better with the same size valves as the gt40 heads at just a few hundred bucks more so you have to weigh the price of head work on the gt40 pieces vrs the new bolt on and go aluminium heads.
Research and planning are key to a fun ride,
Keep in mind the newer cars are at or above 300hp now a days so if you're looking for a 'stop light slayer ' you will need to update your plan.
Oh, and I'll add that all this can be done with the stock air box in place, silencer removed of course.

Thanks.

My current thoughts are to max out the stock 302 and T5 tranning. Then go to suspension.

Thanks, I think this is where Im going.

Stay NA. Use the intake/headers pops gave me. Save some dough on CAI and use stock. New 70mm TB (need to research which one). Stock cam.

Exhaust is going to be interesting. First, When I do the heads I need to see if the existing headers come off. If they dont, then I need to accelrate a new purchase. One issue is that my dad is moving out of FL and the car will need to come into my nam in MA. I havnt started my research into getting exhaust inspected in MA. Its a 93, so a good bit of exhaust aspects arent necessary. However, I think my stang may not even have cats. I also believe smog has been deleted and I dont yet know the implications of that.

Based on the convo above, it sounds like stock injectors are find for this <400hp build. Should I consider fuel delivery at all as part of this process?

A quick search uncovered that emission testing for registration is required for St. Louis and 4 counties but check in the region you are in (or going to) vehicles older than 1996 may be exempt, check to find out, things change.
You will not be near 400hp with the bolt ons we talked about, still stout but not near 400 ponies.

I'm also in MA.

You are required to have ALL emissions and stock exhaust on the car...but that's so loosely enforced.

Depending on the shop, they may or may not want cats on the car. It's strictly a visual inspection, although a car that stinks and is loud as hell will be a given. However, most shops will probably kick you out the minute they see you don't have any. Long tubes are hit or miss. They might notice them, or not. And tailpipes need to go out the back. No dumps, however i know folks that have passed with a GT and dumps because you can't actually see there are no tailpipes.

Once you get past that hurdle, everything else is easy. They are not allowed to pop the hood for inspecting. So you don't need any of the emissions stuff under there. EGR can be gone, smog pump, etc. There is no sniffer test.

They will do safety and that's about it. Lights, wipers, tires, balljoints, tint, etc.

Go on a nice warm summer day, and find a shop that has a reputation for being run by gearheads. The MA inspection process is so subjective that it's all up to the inspector. Some are by-the-book, and some do bare minimum. You want the latter.

I have a bassani catted X-pipe on my car. Other than that it's loud as hell but i have no problem. My smog pump and emmssions stuff is gone. My egr is gone. Nobody knows because they can't pop the hood and actually look.

Well that’s something. I think I just snapped a bunch of vacuum lines moving them out of the way. I mean, I know plastic becomes brittle over time, but cmon. Lol

Looks like the only broken one actually in use is green. Yay

I'm up on the north shore 128 area. I'm in the Mustangs of Massachusetts club. When you get to a point you are ready to cruise, lots of things going on locally all summer long.

Ill continue to research, but what are folks thoughts on EGR delete?

On the fence. Doesn't really add power, but cleans up the engine bay and you aren't injecting carbon into your engine.

With the EGR disabled, it also disables decel fuel shutoff ONLY on the X3W computer. None of the non-cobra ECU's have that enabled but you can enable it with a Moates/Tweecer. Useless info for the masses

I think in your case, it's probably at the bottom of the list to focus on. I've only recently just deleted my EGR and i've had my car for 25 years.
