Progress Thread Snow - 93 GT Vert. Prepping for sale

Went to start the car yesterday and battery was dead. Put it on the slow charger and it started up just now. Checked the volts while running and it was 14.6. I checked at battery and car mount. Is there anywhere else I need to check voltage at? Alternator itself, though getting 14.6 means its working well. Did I read somewhere check at water pump?

I redid grounds last year with stronger cables, but do want to make sure thats all checked out.

Alternator to random body is good. Battery to exhaust manifold bolt also 14.6. All that seems solid.

Remove the positive cable off the battery, clip the end of a test light to the cable and put the probe end on the battery post. If it lights up you have a draw. Start pulling fuses until it goes out.

Long time no talk! Time to get to it

Some cleanup here, but is there a part number or DIY approach to solve my heater tube bypass monstrosity here? I see maybe one part online and they want $24 for it. Any easier options out there?

Next - what are the steps to trouble shoot 'no power'.

I adjusted my distributor and redid the idle setting (base idle reset) check-list. Idling is great. However, I get no power. It could be a lot of things so Im wondering if there is a checklist on where to start, maybe MAF, etc?

When I press the gas, I get to like 2-2.5k. Then no matter how much I push down the pedal I dont get any more RPM and no power.

I swear I watched a YouTube video with a guy with the same issue and he ended up replacing the distributor and it fixed his problem.

There is a world where I screwed up my timing. But with a successful base idle reset that would seem unlikely, no?

No like the internals of his distributor were bad, specifically the PIP I think? Actually the video is posted in the Sales and Ads thread, it’s a convertible fox video. Let me see if I can link it.

I'm not real sure what you've got going on with your heater tube? Are you bypassing the heater core? If so there's a hose you can use that works perfectly.

Has the distributor been removed, is it possible that it's a tooth off?
I agree with checking codes also monitor fuel pressure while rev'n the engine.

Did you put the SPOUT connector back in after adjusted the timing? I did that once, the car was a real turd until I put it back in.

Yea - that was me 1000% being lazy with what I had. It will be fixed as its a huge eye sore.

I will start some diagnosis this weekend. With Third Winter coming to New England I should have some time tomorrow.

It could be 1 tooth off. Do you think 1 tooth either direction could create this situation?

I threw the towel in on the timing. I had it towed to a speed shop for them to work on. 3 hours of labor and its running tip top. They also identified a loose wire to the starter which we believe was the issue on the hot starts. So that is the good news.

The sad news is I think it is time for me to move on from Snow. I have loved this car and everything which came with it. The 302 was a lot of fun and checked all the boxes with getting into spinning wrenches, but my heart is no longer in it. And while I enjoy having the car and driving the car, I am not feeling the giddy energy with it anymore. That being said, I will be buttoning it up (heater tube loopback being #1) and preparing it to be put on the market.

Thanks all for the support along the way, this site is truly a group of intelligent, like minded, enthusiasts like no other.

As I get closer to sell date, Ill be sure to drop in with some pics.

It happens.. I pulled my Dodge out of a field, did a rotisserie resto on it and owned it for 31 years before selling it... It was needing a mini resto and I just did not want to spend the time or money on it... I have a couple of new projects I wanted to do and at 71 years old in April, it was literally " do or die time" ... LOL
Funny, your hot start issue was the ONLY problem I had with my Dodge after completely taking it apart and putting it back together.... Mine was more of a NO crank problem intermittingly.. Turned out to be a loose bat cable on a relay....
