Well after two years of owning my car, I finally tried powershifting 1-2 gear. I did it hoping it wouldnt break anything, and luckily it didnt. :nice: To be honest, it didnt even feel like it was that bad either  . Same as banging 1-2, just the RPMs go up a little bit inbetween. Now I know powershift is soppossed to be bad, but I also heard it was the 2-3 shift that was really the T5 breaker, which Im not going to risk doing. Now I only did it 4 or 5 times, should I cut it out completely? I was going to try it at the track next time I go to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.

it can break on the 1-2 shift as well trust me...........

third is the worst to powershift though........kinda like putting an auto in neutral and then slamming it into gear......boom.....chirrrrrrrrrp

lol

both=bad

OK, but what about backing off to about half throttle during the shift. If you balance it well, you can keep the revs from falling off a bunch. And the shift seems to zip nicely without dumping the clutch from redline.

Or am I kidding myself, and that's just as bad?

i wouldnt risk powershifting on a daily driver... unless you got a spare tranny in your garage. it will decrease et's, assuming you dont bang the limiter every time, but really is an extra .05 .10 tenth worth risking breaking your tranny on the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shifts every time. it isnt for me anyway

if ur really good and brave you can proshift ur T5, foot on the floor and no clutch!

ok, i've done this to my toploader but with over 400 horse it takes the arm of superman. im also not worried at all about my toploader coming apart.

t5s on the other hand, maybe it would not be worth it for a .10

i have seen a t-5 shifted clutchless before...........drove to the track fine.....clutch didn't slip tranny had never had any problems......

after three successfull passes........we had to drag it the rest of the way down the track with a four wheeler on the fourth..........

we trailered it home......all because he was shifting clutchless in my mind.....sound like one of those little popcorn toys the kids used to push around.......lol

Well looks like Im not going to powershift anymore. Yes my car is my DD and I defintely dont have a trans waiting to go it. I never did bounce of the revlimiter though, I would shift at 5,500 and the rpms never went over 6k. Ahh well, it was fun the few times I did it. I was messing around today though, and almost did it again, haha.

I only powershift 4th at the track, but the likelyhood of missing 4th is much less than missing 2nd or 3rd.

IMO its barely worth it at the track, and not worth it in the least on the street. Your syncros, clutch, and tranny gears will def not like you very much if you do it often.

You should add "strong" too. I'm not that brave either. My old man has done it with me in the car and it sounded like somethin bad going on when he did that. The next thing he said to me was: "Don't you try doing that either. You aren't strong enough." :)

The answer to the question of "how bad is powershifting" is it depends how fast you do it. :D

powershifting is your friend

power shifting 4th = freebie
powershifting 2-3 = you have balls and a quick throw
powershifting 1-2 = you have a really really quick throw

no when we are talking on a stock computer 95 with tip in retard powershifting helps A BUNCH

You can get away with it for awhile so don't be disappointed if it breaks. They are pretty strong and I got away with doing it for 5 years on a used t-5 with 100K on it. It just went this year with when I installed a Spec 3 and dumping the clutch in 2nd at a 25 mph roll @ about 4K. Just don't do it too much if you can't budget in a new one soon.
