Im one of those guys that loves all things mechanical. Ive owned a '98 ZX6R, and a '99 ZX7R but kinda got bored with both of them. The ZX7R was a heavy pig! My dad has been trying to get me to buy a Harley, but Im a skinny kid and its just not my style. I was going to buy a Buell XB12R (v-twin sportbike), but just couldnt find a nice one anywhere near me. I ended up stumbling across a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 1000. Ive wanted one of these for a couple years, but always talked myself out of it. Now that I got a promotion at work, I decided to go for it! If my wife can get saturday off we are going to go up to Minnesota to complete the deal this weekend. (I have to take her out in Minneapolis to make it worth her while!) Pics will follow if Im able to pick it up this weekend. Im so freakin excited, I had to share!

thats a nice bike..i got a 02 gsxr 600....that 1000 is a BIG stepp up in power from the other 2 bikes you have had...the older 750 and 600 are not even a match for the 2000+ years 600 fuel injected bikes...let alone a 1000...enjoy..stay safe...

+1 i got the chance to hop on a 1000 recently and the power band on it was amazing....u can be in 5th gear going 40 mph and it will pulll away VERY nicely....

thats awesome, i want a bike pretty bad. much cheaper on gas. ive ridden 1 bike and it was an 01 R1. that thing was incredibly fast. my old roommate and his boys all have 600s and they think they are hot **** on their little 600s. dont get me wrong i would take a 600 in a heart beat. i would love to smoke them in the stang that would be epic. anyhow have fun on the gixxer.

Thanks guys! We are indeed going up to Minneapolis tomorrow after I get off work at 11am. I have the check in my wallet waiting to arrive in MN. Im really excited to be stepping up to a bike of this caliber. You guys are absolutely right about my old bikes being just that... old. The technology has advanced just like our Mustangs. I mean Im only getting a 2001, but thats still gonna be much more power than Im used to. Luckily I once dumped my 600 ridin in the alley behind my old apartment going between 30-40mph, so I know what road rash feels like. (stupid kid pullin wheelies while there was winter sand still on the roads!) I learned the hard way to have respect for a high revving motorcycle... This one Im buying isnt anything fancy, just the typical blue and white gixxer, but thats all I need. Im not really a flashy guy, Im just happy that my old helmet and leather ridin jacket will match the color scheme! Pics will be posted up after I get her home and washed on sunday. Its cool to hear some of you guys are also motorcycle riders.

Well, as luck would have it I started to get sick on the drive up to Minneapolis. I still bought and rode the bike home, but was pretty miserable doing it. I ended up staying home from work today with flu-like symptoms, and I still havent gathered the energy to wash the bike. I snapped a couple pics though for yall to see. I also sanded and repainted the rear solo seat cover, because it originally didnt match the bike. I was pretty bummed that the guy didnt have the actual back seat, cause now I have to buy one before my girl can come with me on the bike... Let me know what yall think.

Yeah dude, Im in love with it. It has so much more lower end torque than either of my prior bikes. There are a few little things that arent perfect, but its a work in progress. The mesh screens on the front end intake tubes are painted different colors (one is silver, one is black), so I will have to repaint them like I did the rear solo seat cover. Its been laid down at a very low speed, as you can see by the scratches on the right lower fairing and right side frame slider. I can live with all that as I paid a few hundred less that NADA value. Plus, I had my old ZX6R painted Viper Blue with metalflake, but I was so scared to ride it and chip up the paint that it wasnt as much fun. Then I ended up dumping it anyway...

Tell me about it! I washed it today, and the wheels are terrible. They are not nearly as clean as they look in the pics? Anyone have any suggestions on how to take old brake dust off the white? A lot of it came off with grease cutting dish soap and hot water, but some of it is still stuck in the dimples of the paint and wont come off no matter how hard I scrub... Anyone with white Saleen wheels know of a good cleaner that is safe on paint/powdercoating?

I have white wheels on one of the bikes too. I hate those things (wash 'em after every ride, chain lube = pooey wheel). I should have had the color changed when I got the bike).

You might have to literally marinate the dirty spots in a grease cutter. Danny (Wytstang) has white wheels on his stang IIRC, and he is a detailing nut. He might have some ideas.

Otherwise, I'd check the bike forums. You're not the only one with white wheels.

ah ... a jock rocket ...

i had a yamaha xj700 back in the day ... i loved that thing

i also had a rd-350 ... that thing was scary fast (two stroke engine)

my first bike was a little 125cc honda ... great gas mileage and a fun little bike for putt-putting around

Try charcoal lighter fluid first, its cuts grime good.... follow up with wax...WD40 is super stuff for cleaning to, I use it on all kinds of paint as bug/ tar remover...both work equally good and wont hurt the powdercoat in the least...

I remember I had new Dunlaps installed at the Suzuki dealer and the jack off changing em chipped my White rims bigtime...

If they weren't cared for and cleaned regular it may be a good Winter project to have em re-powdered..

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I dont know if I want to repowdercoat them or get them chromed. I found an outfit that you send your wheels in to, and then they send out a different set that is already chromed, so that there is less down time. Its about $600, so I dont know if that is better or if I should just try to find a place to chrome my wheels. If I do it over the winter I dont care about the down time. I like the white, but it takes good maintenance to keep it up. Then again, so does chrome. Haha, I guess this isnt a motorcycle forum, so I can give my plans a rest on here. The mustang is going to feel neglected soon!

The White is a pisser to keep clean...brake dust and chain grime... Chrome or polished is kinda the same deal...it's all work to keep em looking good.

I use Maxima racing oils chain wax on mine...stuffs the bomb and you don't get any to minimal of slinging crud..I love the stuff.
I'm kinda anal about my toys and tend to keep em clean...Get one of the California mini dusters... works the balls cleaning the dust off the wheels and all over......a quick wipe before and after...those dusters suck the crud right off em...

Awesome dude, nice find. A friend of mine had an '03 gsxr1000 but sold it because it was "scary fast". My mom and dad each have harleys so i've been riding them all year but i want a sport bike so bad! A CBR will probably be the first thing i buy once I'm finished college.
