Yup I never though a cop would care enough or be bored enough to pull me over for having smoked headlights and tail-lights...he gave me a ticket and told me that it was unsafe and not dot approved...

I mean come on, yes he caught me and yes I was in the wrong in the laws view, but I just cant imagine being such a dick about such a trivial thing....

that sucks man! I got pulled over yesterday by Hedwig Village cops for launching at a stopsign and going WOT to 50. Cop laughed and started talking about my car with me, and told me not to bother when I went to get my insurance. He let me go without even a warning. Ive always heard of that happening, but didnt believe it till it happened to me.

Some cops just suck ass. My best friend spent 22hrs in jail in Hempstead on Saturday for pulling his front wheel off the ground 6 inches on his bike. I think half of them are good, hard working people, and the other half not so much

BTW, some of us need to get together in the next couple of weeks and hit the track early before it gets too crowded.

btw, what is the cost they hit you with?

Mark

It was a state trooper, I doubt regular city cops are as bad but watch out for those troopers...Im hoping if i can find some stockers around here the judge will let me off but we'll see,

Yes we do need to meet up, anytime is good with me i haven't been to the track since before i put the supercharger on , but id be embarrassed to run unless i had dr's lol

I'm not sure how much its going to cost but hopefully its less than 150...

he was probably going to pull you over regardless, and just decided the lights were the only thing he could get you on right then and there. I've had a couple cops pull me over just because of how badass my car looks (lmao stock ;)) and let me go because I wouldn't say sh**, and they had nothing on me.

Mang that suxors :notnice:
Weird cause dads Cobra came with the smoked tails and they passed safety in Dallas  Just installed the smoked headlights and hope it dont cause him trouble

exactly, and the stock headlights on the 02+ are smoked, there was an 02+ gt sitting in a parking lot in front of us and i was like look those are factory headlights and they are smoked. He told me that he could see the side markers on his lights and that mine were darker...whatever...i guess ill just have to eat the ticket, i need a good daily driver bad...

But they aren't smoked. The lenses are perfectly clear. Aren't your aftermarket lights clear as well? They just don't have the anber reflector or is the plastic tinted?

I can see cops giving tickets for tinted taillights though. I've been behind some cars with taillights tinted so dark you couldn't see them. It really does make a difference reacting to the red lights flicking on than seeing the car start to creep closer to you with no lights.

Plus, if you have tinted taillights and someone rearends you, you could be found partially at fault if the other person is savvy enough to point it out to a cop and say they couldn't see your lights. You'd get a ticket for modifed safety equipment and the insurance company could rule it a 75/25 or 50/50. Same goes with HID's. If you blind someone and they hit a pedestrian because they can't see, it could come back on you if someone is savvy enough to say they were blinded by illegal lights and get you.

There are reasons for these laws.

But i still think the look is badass :nice:

if you bought the headlights from anywhere major, they actually probably are DOT approved....look where you bought em, and look on the lens. You might be able to fight this one:flag:

How would it being bought from somewhere major have anything to do with it being approved by DOT... that would be like saying the blue or red street glow that the ricers drive around with down here that they buy from autozone might actually be legal :rlaugh:

It's not the DOT number they need, but also the SAE number stamped next to it.

Also, a lot of lights are DOT lenses modified AFTERWARDS

Basically any tinting of the lense, or modification of the reflectors is illegal period. They must be amber up front and red in the rear. It could have the seal of the President of the United States on it and it wouldn't matter
