so i guess my hood wasnt latched

i had turned onto a main road, got up to about 40 and WHAM!! hood flies up.

at that instant i remembered when me and my buddy tom were looking at my motor yesterday to see how high my blower will sit.... he set the hood down gently and didnt latch it.

the hoods facked, so is my cowel panel and plastic cowel piece. the roof has two nice creases in it. ill get some pics tomorrow. i was so pissed off!
after i re-bent the hood some and slammed it shut i revved it up and spun the tires all the way throu 3rd. left 2 patches about 75 feet long.

i guess it could have been worse, the windshield didnt break, neither of the t-tops broke and now it gives me an excuse to start some body work, get a new hood and re-paint it. ill probably get a fiberglass hatch and a cobra wing while im at it.

$40 dollar hood pins will be the best money you'll ever spend. I've seen too many of my friend's hoods fly up and destroy things. Sorry to hear that it happend to you as well.

I was thinking about investing in some good hood pins. Thanks for making up my mind quicker lol. That is sh-ity for you though at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

guys this happens way to often, at least once a month there is another post about a hood flying up from not being latched

i have hood pins as well as the original latch for this reason

Thats sucks. Atleast you didnt just have your hood painted like my buddy did. his flew up about 2 weeks after it was painted. So when i started driving mine i went and spent a whopping 10 bucks on a set of hood pins. better safe than sorry.

Dammit! We were JUST talking about preserving your original hood the other day too.

Hood pins only work if you put the pins in like my buddy didn't do after he just finished washing his car and taking his girlfriend for her first ride in a Mustang. He has a new hood now and 1 chick that will never forget his Mustang.

i have hood pins AND stock latch.. im not f'n up the 72 hours it took to just paint the damn car.. sorry to hear it.. next time you should use hood pins.. besides.. i think it adds just that lil something to say "Im not just some everyday mustang owner.." or just a "this isnt stock by any means" lol

Done it...with a brand new hood & fresh paint. Destroyed the windshield, put a major dent in the roof and crippled the hood. Wasn't the pinnacle point in my car's life..just remember to latch it and you're fine.

I don't think I could drill 2 holes in my hood lol....Maby I will get someone else to do it and I will leave.

I did the same, at the time i just got the hood, it was used but it was still a nice cervinis and i handed the drill over to my friend, as well as all my trust and turned my head, he did a really good job and after some test fitting and trimming it was excellent

If I put the pin part on without the holes in the hood....maby put some ink or paint on the top of the pin so the paint would transfer on the underside of the hood....Maby that might work good and then I can just drill where the marks are from where the pins would go up through the hood.

I was on the freeway last night about to exit and all of a sudden my hood started to bounce around. I got off and shut it right away. Hood pins are comin fo sho!

Another good way to mark the hood for holes is to cut out a rectangle piece of cardboard about 2" wide and maybe 6" long to reach from the fender to the pin with excess. Open the hood, tape the cardboard piece to the fender so that it is centered over the pin, mark it, fold it back over the fender, close the hood, and fold it back down on to the hood and there's your hole location. Or you could just guess. Whatever's easier.
