If I use ARP headbolts along with their moly lube and thread sealer i ONLY have to torque those bad boys down to 60 lbs????

I did that last nite and I understand you get different torque readings but i guess i'm just uneasy about leaving it at 60. Although 60 with moly lube did feel like 85 with 30w motor oil.


BTW TrickFlow TW heads, 7/16 ARP head bolts, 302 block

No, you shouldn't just torque them just to 60lbs. Read what the instructions say and follow your TW heads torque ratings. If you can't find them let me know and I will tell you how to torque them.

From TFS website

7/16 in. Head Bolts: Torque to 35 ft.-lbs., 50 ft.-lbs., and 70 ft.lbs., then tighten only the long bolts an additional 10 ft.-lbs.

If you have aluminum heads, you are reading the ARP instructions correctly. The aluminum heads don't need as much torque as cast iron because they expand more than cast iron. The moly lube significantly reduces friction in the threads which means less torque produces the same clamping force. Mine were torqued to 60-65 ft-lbs 2 years and 12K miles ago. No problems.

Thank you so much Michael. I just wanted real world experience of someone with alum heads using arp bolts with moly lube. So i guess 60 lbs it is.

Hissin- you right! The Volvo part can take the miles no problem - it's that Ford engine I'm worried about.
