Heard an awful metal clank last night. Jacked it up a little while ago and snapped these pics. I don't think there is any repair to this. Am I right?

Sure, there's a repair. It's called a welder, and it's available at a bodyshop near you. Just find one that's good at frame straightening, since they'll have to do a 'four-wheel alignment' on a car that was meant to have no adjustments.

Yea it is where the UCA attaces to the body.

Wel I figure it could be welded up but after it was welded how much strength would it have?

It'll have plenty of strength if you get it welded then reinforce it with a set of Rick91GTs torque box kits. MUCH stronger then it ever was before.

Don`t despair.That can be fixed.I read a long time ago that the upper control arm mounting area is fairly weak as Ford only spot welded it to the body at the factory.

yea what did you do drive off a cliff? lol sorry to hear that man - nurse it over to a body shop - and have them weld it, we do stuff like this, it's very random that ppl come in w/ problems like that though...

LoL, seen that before! They tend to do that, but it is very much repairable. Who ever you have weld the box back in make sure that they take the time to clean/ grind the galvanized finish off of the car or other wise the weld will not hold and you will be back in the same situation again. Best of luck

For a repair like that, most MIG wire has a tensile strength of ~60,000 lbs. Thats means it would take 60,000 lbs of force to rip that weld. Your sheet metal and upper control arms would rip in half before that weld broke depending on what wire you use.

O and galvanized metal releases some nasty fumes when plasma cutting or welding on it so be careful.

Understatement of the year...

Were you lanching the car pretty hard before this happened? Run slicks or DR's ever?

I've heard a stock 5.0 running slicks is enough to rip the tq boxes launced hard enough, I wonder if that's true for DR's as well? Certaintly street tires won't allow a hard enough launch to do that.... right?

Definately makes me think I should reinforce the tq boxes before even making a couple passes on borrowed drag radials...

I just got my car back from Wild Rides, and they make some really nice battle boxes for the upper/lower control arms. I was going to have some installed, but no more money for that.

They also make this new thing called an S-Box or something like that. It's like a whole new "thing" that goes under your rear seat. I'm not sure how it works...and their website is currently down. So give em a call!
