Just curious as I think about mods. My goal I guess is to have my Cobra in the 12's and still be able to finish paying it off w/o blowing the thing up.

Honestly I know that any mods can hurt the car if not implemented correctly, Im just asking what the safest bets are.

Here are a couple stats:

1. 1998 Cobra
2. Vert (so its heavier than a coupe)
3. 65k miles (should you even consider sc'ing or n2o on a 65k mile motor?)
4. 100% stock

Also what are the NHRA rules? Im guessing Ill need a cage of some sort. But how many points and what else?

Any advice for what not to do?

Thanks

Yes but thats a 5.0 which is an awesome motor. I know little about the mod motors Im afraid, Im sure they are great motors though.

How many miles would you guys expect out of the car I listed with say a vortech with around 6-8 psi? Vortech claims 442hp on an otherwise stock car. Does that sound about right?

Isnt that stressing the internals a lot?

Id like the motor/tranny to last over 100k if possible...

I have had 0 problems with my S/C or my Engine since I have owned my cobra. I am having a few problems with my tranny tho, mostly the synchros are getting a little wierd on me. Other than that I think if the installation is done right and the maintenance is kept regular then these things will run forever. My car now has a little over 70k.

My personal opinions about NOS are I wouldn’t use it on my car. LOL

and the best advice of "What not to do" is don’t go cheap, Speed = $$$$...

Happy Modding!

If you are more concerned with reliability than performance, I would say avoid power adders & stick to bolt ons. Might not hit the 12's, but it'll last longer.

If you got the money just supercharge it. Don't waste your money on bolt-ons that ad minimal horsepower. Plus you'll still get beat my other cars with bolt-ons. You put a blower on your Cobra and you'll walk all over a lot of cars. Read my signature on my 96 Cobra. I got 3-4 MPH on cars that run in the 11's with slicks. I know I got the power, I just need to hook it up. You can do the same thing!!!

My 97 Cobra is just bolt-ons and every time I drive it I regret not taking my 96, because I get beat my almost everything I race.

Rules for a Conv..is 13.99 or faster and you need at least a 6 point cage. I got booted from the track all the time in my Pro-charged 5.0L conv...it sucked.

Oh yeah a loop is required on any car with slicks (even if it is a 17 second car. ) Other wise, a loop and steel bellhousing is required on cars running 12.99 or faster with street tires or drag radials.
