So why are my foglights blowing out??

Hey all. I've recently been experiencing problems with my '02's foglights. I'll replace one because it burnt out, then 3 days later the other will burn out, and then I'll that one and the other I JUST replaced will burn out again.

Could I be using the wrong bulb? I am using 893s.

Please help LOL.... This sucks!

Are you being careful not to directly touch the bulbs when you take them out of the package & install them?

Is there moisture in the foglight housing? It might not be sealing correctly and moisture is getting to the bulbs

That was what was happening to mine. I finally replaced them with the Mustangtuning clear ones. Works perfect.

You know this never happened until I moved here to Texas where the humidity is like 85% every day. Maybe that's the problem....

As for touching the bulbs, when I install new headlights/fogs, I always use gloves to avoid that problem.

another vote for moisture. both of my fog light housings had stress cracks and water was getting in, the lights were pretty much floating there was so much water in there. i sealed the housings up and i havent had a problem since.

OK, so short of clear fogs (whih would be nice, but I am retiscant to spend any more $ on this car since I'm only going to have it a few more months, if that) I'll put some blue RTV on the seals and see how it likes that!!

well i wouldnt put it right on the seals... thoroughly inspect the housing for hairline cracks and use RTV on those, use bulb grease on the electrical contacts and ensure it is sealing properly. don't like RTV around the base of the bulb

mine did the same thing. hit a large puddle and the fog blew, cant get a buble to stay on for more then a day or 2 since... remove the housing completely... after you RTV it, let it sit on the counter for a day or two with a dry paper towel inside it to attempt to remove any moisture left in the housing. then reinstall and grease the socket housing before you plug it back in.

I tried sealing the housing with now luck so I drilled small holes in the bottom of the housing to allow water to drain/evaporate. Haven't had a problem blowing bulbs since.

Fill it with rice and let that sit for a day or bake it in the oven at like 150 for like 2 minutes...then seal it up.
