i endede auction early i guy came here and looked at it and offered 500 over my reserver which was 10 grand so i have 10,500 to lay down on a new 2005 gt

Yes I would say you are crazy for doing that I personally would have tried to keep it and get the 05. You couldnt have picked a better car to trade it in for though. The 2005 Mustang is the best looking car on the road today... period.

I never had the chance of getting it together i gave up on it due to loss of interest and getting wrong parts or faulty parts from autostore>partsplus suks

No you didnt make a mistake if you got 10,500 for it. I dont know

what condition your car was in but if it was average then that number

sounds good to me. The old cars are junk, and the only thing they are

good for is to be looked at. I sold my 1966 GT fastback a year ago and

2 weeks after I sold it the guy who bought it called me to tell me

the front wheel fell off while driving 70 mph on the interstate.

Another thing is that ford built about 73,000 1969 Mach I 's ,

thats 13,000 more units than standard fastbacks built so I dont

know why people even get excited about the Mach I.

Now you have a car that has it all good looks and performance so

dont let people make you feel bad for getting rid of something that

is not even rare.

I say make a decision, right or wrong and stick with it. If you wanted the 05 and the Mach was the way to get it, good for you. You only live once and indecision is the mother of regret. Besides, I bet your 69 doesn't have that new car interior smell!

It's only a mistake if you feel that way. I probably would've sold the Mach also but only because I don't have the patience, skill, or money to restore it nice. When they are restored they are freaking amazing and never should be sold. But if it was never going to be in that state, a new nice car is great

There reason I say what I did is thinking about how many classics get crushed or are sitting out in a field some where rusting out. For might have made 70k or so Machs that year but you can bet that many don't exist today. Even going under a very conservative estimate of 50% attrition over the last 30 some odd years they are rare enough that you likely won't see one every day...heck everymonth even.

The 05 GT on the other hand will only have that exclusiveness for say...a few months before you see them everywhere. Nothing wrong with that but I'd have waited it out and had them both rather than selling away the Mach. But that's just me I enjoy the older cars more than their newer versions anyway.

i would have personally kept the mach1 myself, i think that they are one of the best looking cars ever built.
why do you think ford is making the new cars look like the old ones?

as for old cars bieng "junk" i guess it depends on your mechanical abilities.


your enthusiasm level also has a lot to do with it and you sometimes get tired of the same old ride. just remember the old ones don't depreciate where the new one will.

No offense, but I wouldn't kick yourself in the ass for selling the Mach. Buying a new '05 (along with your $10,500 down) would be much cheaper and less headaches than restoring the Mach back to perfection. Now all you have to do is turn the key and enjoy your '05 instead of putting together an old relic.

I don't know what kind of shape it was in, if it was restored or not, but if it was in great shape, I wish you'd a sold it to me.

What did it need, everything?


A friend of mine paid $15,000 last year for a 1973 Mach 1 that was in excellent, restored condition with numbers matching. But a '73?

If you'd waited a few years you probably could have traded straight across for a used 05. That's my plan, anyway. But if you need a newer car now, then...

My mach basically only needed the tranny shifter connected the front brakets of engine done, front end alignment, a buff job then decals added, the body had a 5 year old paint job which was starting to bubble already due to this new york cold/hot envirment, i was worried id be needing a paint job in 2 years thats another 4 grand, The nice thing about new cars is that they are as fast if not faster than old and can sit in traffic and have air conditioning ,electris eveything, But theres nothing like an old car look, And problem is eveyone woulndt buy a car if it didnt look good so , Im just confused and i look at new mustangs like 2005 and then look at old ones in ebay and wonder if i sold mine too cheap body was awesome besides early signs of bubbling

It looks like your Mach was not a numbers matching car (engine and tranny swap) so its long term collector value is limited.

Given the above, the best thing to do is build up a new crate motor, suspension and brake upgrades, etc to bring the car into the 21st century. Sounds like you were doing that, or, you can buy a new Mustang today from Ford which is much better overall car than you can build off the Mach platform. (my 02).
