Some 3g Alt problem

Hey guys. So I finished up the install of a 3G alternator on my 82 Capri a couple of weeks ago. I tested it a few hundred times afterwards, just to make my car wasn't gonna go up in flames. Through the install, I researched and researched untl I was comfortable enough to hook it all up.

The today, I decided to check again. I am reading 12.2V on the battery,KOEO, KOER and at 1500 and 2500 RPM. And when I crank it over the battery voltage drops to about 11.8-11.9V. I was getting a reading of 14.2V on KOEO, KOER, idle, 1500 and 2500 RPM just after the install and a few days after. I have no clue why all of a sudden I am getting this reading off my multimeter.

I read up awhile ago on a bronco forum that some install might require a ground cable from the alternator to chassis. Is that what my problem is? Did I just fry my alternator, would a new regulator fix it if I indeed fry it?

Pull the alternator and take it to the parts store where you bought it. They can bench test it to determine what is wrong.

I figured that's what I had to do, I just wished I didn't have to take it off again , but of it goes tomorrow. anyone got any idea whats going on though? Thanks!
