I just purchased a 1995 Mustang GT. I should say I saved it from someone who did not know what the @^&#!!! he was doing.
According to the previous owner it had an aftermarket cam installed. I am not 100% convinced of this. The stang has a real loppy idle and sounds pretty mean. It has gobs of low end power but not a lot of top end. That just seems really odd to me. In my experience with working these cars it appears from listening to it that timing was manually changed. Also, with as big as this cam appears to be, why am I lacking top end power?
Does anyone have any ideas where to start?

Thank you

These boys can surely help but you are going to need to give a parts list ....
Just a cam....what type of heads and intake? that could be the reason it's falling off top end..........

Well it appears that the intake and heads are stock. I looks to be flowmaster or like exhaust, aftermarket headers and BBK cold air. That would be the extent of the engine mods that I can tell at this point. I have not been able to spend any time under the car yet. I have 4-6ft snow birms around my house and I can not access my garage .
I do not understand why someone would put an aftermarket cam into a stock engine?!?!
I got this car for a good deal. Yeah it needs work, but who wants a car that doesn't?
The kid I bought it from put a cobra hood and front bumper on it.

I doubt he changed the cam. That's a LOT of work. Check your timing and clean the IAC and MAF sensor.

If you want to find out if the cam has changed, I'd look for evidence that the intake manifold and timing cover have been removed. Look for new RTV squeezed out around the gaskets or new gaskets which tend to be blue or green. Try to see if the oil pan gasket is still continuous beneath the timing cover. If he did a cam swap, the stock oil pan gasket needs to be cut at replaced below the cover. This would probably be pieces of cork gasket at that location.

Yup......with similiar BBK cold air set up

I agree....I does not appear that the cam was changed. No visible new gaskets or silicone.
I wondering if the cam sensor is reading correctly. It really smells like car is running way too rich, especially on one side of the engine as if an injector is stuck open.
