Some KB #'s @ 9lbs boost

Just came back from JDM and I finally got to see some real results from my engine build up with the 9lb KB blower. JDM set up the car with a break-in tune at 9lbs of boost and dynoed at 440 rwhp. After the engine has fully broken in JDM will up the boost to 14lbs and hopefully get about 500rwhp...not bad,huh. I thought I could run 20lbs but JDM doesnt suggest running that kind of boost through the twin screw...damn. I am told the motor in my car can handle 950 hp at the crank so I guess with a safe 500hp to the wheels I wont have to worry about breaking the motor again. Anyone know whether KB plans on making the 2V twin screw in a 2.2L or possibly larger?

yes. they are currently working on a 2.2L race blower for the 2valve 4.6.
 
They say they're working on it but the word I got is that their test motor puked and had to be sent back to the builder so with that and with the 99-01 cobra kits being held up due to one part the 2.2 is kind of in limbo right now. I'm waiting on it too.:D
 
With the 14lb pulley it will be tuned running on 93 octane. It will be really tough to reach 500 rwhp with the 14lb pulley but JDM will try to get as close to it as possible without having to use race fuel. Maybe I will turbocharge it next year...jk. Before the engine blew I had a saleen II @12lbs of boost with 343rwhp so with only 2lbs more with the KB I will be more than happy with 480-500 rwhp. Jim from JDM took me for a ride in the car today and the thrust of the KB is awesome...night and day compared to the saleen II sc. Do not get me wrong the Saleen II sc was a lot of fun but the KB is a blast to hear when building boost.

What was your set up from JDM if I might ask? Did you reduce your compression ratio, did you change your cams?

I have Tim at T&J doing my motor now. I'm having my compression reduced to 9-1 so I can up the boost safely and he is changing the cams. Should be around 450-500 at 12psi.

By the way, 1 psi="about" 12RWHP extra. So 5 more psi should get you another 60RWHP. Becareful with your intake temp. Tim says that the temperature shoots up drastically after 12 psi. This pertains to the KB kit. I'm not sure what it does to other units.
 
JDM built me a motor with a cobra crank, manley rods and probe pistons with 8.5-1 compression using 5.4 lightning heads(better flow) with custom billet cams(i am not sure of the specs) The idle is pretty lumpy...sounds awesome. I also have Kooks JDM LT headers so I will probably only be at about 12-13lbs with the 14lb pulley. Anything near 500rwhp and I will be happy. It feels good just knowing the tune is safe and has a strong motor to back it up.
 
According to JDM they have better flow...at least that is what I was told. I believe the lift duration is better than 4.6 heads(do not quote me on that however). I will have the car tomorrow so I am sure they will print out copies of the dyno sheet. It looks like any other KB dyno sheet...nothing new.

I was interested in seeing if the LTHs did anything to shift your torque curve. I keep hearing that people lose low end tq with shorty headers, but I don't recall hearing anything about the long ones.

Most of the DOHC heads are pretty much the same. They all bolt on the same. They do have some difference in port sizes that should change the flow. Needless to say if you have the heads p&p there all going to have about the same potential. As long as your going to have headwork done eventually there is no need to worry about which DOHC heads you have.

Why did your motor break? Was it with the KB blower?

5.4 Lightning heads=SOHC.
 
Stock block with a saleen II blower @12lbs of boost and a bad tune from a shop in NJ(wont mention the name). The motor was a time bomb waiting to explode. The car was running very lean from the looks of the plugs...i should have known better. I wish the KB had a little more volume to it because as it turns out this blower is actually not powerful enough to really push the motor to its full potential. I hope KB designs a larger head unit and manifold replacement in the near future. Turbos kinda scare me so I really do not want to go down that road.

Lift duration??? That's a cam issue, not heads.

As far as I know, there are no differences in head design. Heads from either size engine will bolt right up.
