With my 1998 GT 5 speed, I swap the rear end gears out from 2.73's to 3.73's. I have been all over the Internet and still have no idea what works and what doesn't. For speed correction I have read that people use an SCT tuner, the speedcal from brothers, and changing the small plastic gear.

What works and what doesn't!

I installed 3.73's and bought a speedcal. Works perfectly You cannot correct the rear gear ratio using a handheld tuner in the 1998 Mustang.

You can also replace the small plastic gear, but for some reason I recall people saying that these gears are prone to failure if replaced. The speedcal works well, and if you ever change gears or wheel +tire diameter in the future it is really easy to update the speedcal to compensate for it.

Yep, either way works....the gear or the speedcal. Im with N8Dogg98 here, the speedcal will allow you to add tire size whenever you want.

Even though i got the speedo gear i would prob go to speedcal route if i was to do it over, the speedo was still off about 2-3 mph with the gear
