somewhat disappointed with nitrous

Just installed a Performer kit on my 289. I put in the 100hp jets, but it doesnt feel as aggressive as i thought. I datalogged the run from 2000 to 6500, with the nitrous coming on at 3400. Once it hits i go rich to 10:1 then levels in the high 11s, which i feel okay with. The plugs look good, but from 4000 up i get surging. My bottle psi is a tad below 900, but i do not have a heater, and its a new bottle. It seems hard to believe that im running low on nitrous, since the afrs stay constant. Im running .060" gap autolites, am i experiencing misfires? I just thought id see a misfire as a lean spike on the graph. Thanks.

get a heater to raise the bottle pressure and if you can get a purge. im sure its a wet shot since it goea fat. thats due to air and not n2o in the line and all you get a fuel. a purge will help with that.

Make SURE your nitrous solenoid is ABOVE your nitrous plate. Especially in a street car.Being below can cause the nitrous solenoid to swell, and not open fully. Also, 100 psi of bottle pressure will make a huge difference in performance. I always liked about 950. Purge helps a ton. If you can't/don't want to get one rgiht now, don't open the bottle until right before you use it. The nitrous in the line will boil at room temp. So you don't get as much nitrous into the motor. It has to be liquid at the solenoid.Hence the purge. You'll know when you get the full 100.:nice:

Thanks for the replys. I have been busy, but ran it on wed. I regapped the plugs at .035 and had 900 psi of pressure. Initally i ran a 13.9 not launching hard, but the nitrous ran a 13.2 at 104 and a 13.5 at 108. I do have a purge, but no heater. It surged the entire run, and im not sure if it is bottle related or an issue with the timing controls. Im running a mallory 685 box, with the spray turning on at 3500 and off at 6500, with 4 deg. of high speed timing retard. I am about ready to take it off and ebay the stuff, since it is so inconsistant, and it doesnt pull smooth like my turbo 5 cyl. I find it hard to believe this car is only a sec quicker than my volvo family sedan.

if its surging it could be running lean, BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!My bottle was usually between 900-950 PSI and i had to use a little bigger fuel jet. My car was a whole different car on the bottle and I stepped up to 125 jets.I never used a retard box, just took 2 degrees out and ran 1 step colder plug. I would really try a little more tuning before you give up.:nice:

The surging is definately a problem. There's something else going on here... you said you datalogged and it was running rich...but someting is happening. The surging should definately show up on the datalog.
