new alternator wired up right
battery fully charged
so i turn on the ignition ding ding lights work
but when i try to start the car
the starter clicks
and everything goes off
no more lights on the instrument cluster, headlights wont come on
i have to let it sit for a second with the ignition off
before the instrument lights will come on again
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON????

Man, relax... lol

Toss the battery on a charger for a couple hours. The alternator was bad, it probably needs some juice, since the alternator wasn't doing its job.

Just taking a wild guess, but I'd bet that your battery is probably shot. Depending on the failure mode of your alternator, it is completely plausible that it was overcharging your battery which will kill even a new battery extremely quickly.

Take it to the parts store and see if you can get it tested on if it will hold a charge and how many cranking amps it can put out.

Good luck...

thanks for the help guys!
i just hooked up the charger which has a jump setting on it as well
turned it on that and tried to crank it and the same thing happened
so the battery must be shot, luckily i have a semi new back up =]
im gonna try charging it and seeing if it works
ill keep you posted on the progress
again thanks so much!

Yea, simple stuff like that can sneak up on ya. Sometimes its worth brushing off the posts and cable ends and putting it all back together. Snug it down, turn the key, and you might be surprised.

that's the same thing I was thinking, I had an old 86 silverado that did that after I put in my new engine, took me about 3 hours to realize that I just had to tighten the terminals
