SOS to all stangers, need your help ASAP....

I was all set to order my 69' Shelby style Trunk Lid and end caps and scoops from Tony Branda and I just found out that not only have they not stocked several of the trim pieces for over 2 years, but the trunk lid is on backorder for a very long time. :nonono:

I have looked at the ones made by Maier Racing and they aren't bad, but they are not exactly like the Shelby either. They are slightly taller and do not have the recessed indention in the rear, they are smooth.

Please, anyone with any leads to a good quality style (Shelby or not) please post some links as I need to buy these parts very soon and I want to make sure I explore any and all options first, I do not want to settle for something if I don't have to. I know enough to stay clear of UP22, but who else is out there?

Yo B, who makes them for MU? I thought I heard it was Maier before? If so, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy direct from them? I will check it out though, thanks! :nice:

1320, got your emails, thanks. BTW, what's with the (remove) business?

i don't think it's maier, not sure who it is but i'm pretty sure it's not maier. whoever builds MU's stuff uses a maroon looking gelcoat, i haven't seen anyone with maroon gelcoat, could be wrong though. the stuff i got from NPD was white. supposedly the darker the gelcoat the better the quality of the piece. for instance in the latemodel market Cervini's uses a black gelcoat and almost everyone i have talked to that has a cervini hood says they either haven't had to do anything to it or very little if they did. basically the darker the gelcoat the more obvious the flaws will be, if you can find someone that uses a black gelcoat on their glass parts they are very proud of the piece.

The best glass I've heard of is mostly late model stuff, Cervini's, HO Fibertrends are the best there, I've heard Crites makes a good piece, their stuff is white gelcoat, but I don't think they make any Shelby parts, mainly Galaxie, Falcon/Comet, Fairlane/Torino stuff.

Hunh, very interesting, makes perfect sense but I never thought of that. So I assume you have heard good things about these pieces then?

But...Maier uses a black gelcoat...

that just means they're proud of their product. i never said it was foolproof. but i think the maier stuff is kind of a flat black gelcoat isn't it? if so flat black will hide as many defects as white will, if it's gloss black gelcoat well then y'all can just hang me now and get it over with.

Put that rope away!

We'll just call it semi-gloss, how about that?

From all the stories I've heard about maier glass I think most complaints are not about the surfaces, they are about the shape/size. I have heard that the fenders don't line up, I have heard that the center ridge isn't, I've heard that the rear edge doesn't line up with the cowl, I've heard that the curvature doesn't line up with the fenders. But to the best of my recollection there haven't been much complaining about the surface.

Of course I know of a number of folks who just bolted them on and painted, no massaging necessary.

yeah i've heard the same things, good and bad. maybe they just a run or batch of parts that weren't all that great? it used to be that maier had the best glass in the industry but that was years ago so who knows now

Well I have some Maier glass here in my room, and both the Shelby style hood and trunklid are glossy black. The only thing that is flat black is the end caps.
but both the glossy and flat black piecies look very nice.

This really sucks. Here I am thinking that Branda is my best source for '69/'70 fiberglass all this time & they don't even have any intention of stocking it? I'd love to see them respond to this thread.

I have to say that I was also not really impressed with their customer service either. Oh sure they got back to me within about a day or so, but very plain none descriptive answers, always with a polite thanks though. It
's to bad becasue when I browsed their site I saw tons of parts fo the 69' Mustang that no one, and I mean no one has or carries, things I have always assumed were simply not available in the aftermarket, but now I have to assume that just becasue they list them does not in any way imply they are any more available then places the parts don't even exist. :(

So I have to say I am more confused then ever now, I don't know what the hell to think about Maier with all the mixed reviews and it seems that I have not alot of choices regardless and that it's going to be a crap shoot which ever way I go. Man, maybe should just keep the fricken' tail stock as rock, sheeeeeesh! :nonono:

BTW, for anyone wondering, I contacted MU about their glass and they tell me it's made by "Quality Fiberglass Products, one of the more accredited manufacturers". I will say this, it seems their stuff is about the most expensive parts so far, even more than the Branda stuff you can't get. Hopefully you get what you pay for becasue unless someone can say how great maier is they are my only choice now.
