Ok, i've installed a new steeda tri-ax shifter in re-place of my old one that came on the car when I bought it, now that it's installed it's much louder than before (more road noise) I thought that I installed it wrong or whatever but no it's all good. So my questions are... What the hell!? and can or should I use some dynamat, roadkill, or any other type of sound deadening inside the center console and shifter area to help with this problem?

I put some inside my shift boot, and around it...but it doesn't do that much...you still have the flexible part of the boot that you can't attach dynamat to..and that will transmit the noise...

bottom line....wear earplugs...turn up the stereo...or just drive at WOT so you won't hear it..

I know it sounds nuts, but I have actually seen people remove their whole tranny and dynamat the whole thing, all sides...although thats a lot of dynamat for a seemingly small annoyance.

The secret to reducing trans noise is to get electrical tape, remove the shift boot. Get a nice piece of foam and wrap the foam very tightly around the shifter. Then, while the boot is still off, cut a small hole in the remaining foam. Place in over the shifter and spread it throughout the whole opening in the floor. Should be noticeably quiet after that.

Sounds like that may work. Do you have any more detailed instructions or is that basically it? If you could go into detail a little more PM me or just post it. Thanks.

I have that shifter gasket and apparently it doesn't work very well. And yes it's installed right.
