My car is getting a bit older, over 100k, and all the sqeaking and rattling it getting to me, I was thinking abotu removing my back seat and lining it with some sort of sound deadening sheets? Can anybody give me some info on this? What brand is the best? Ect......
yeah im looking to deaden the noise in my car, since my accident my subs make my rear passenger side interior 1/4 pabel rattle and squeak like crazy. I see that they are bolted on, how can I take em off.
Question #2 I have heard of people using the rhino truck bed liner spray can stuff to deaden sound etc since it is much cheaper than dynamat.
If you look through some of the previous threads, you'll see quite a bit of discussion lately about sound deadeners....
Basically, there are a ton of deadeners available at much better pricing than Dynamat...Brown Bread, FatMat, EDead, and some others. Parts Express has some generic sheets at a decent price that are essentially Dynamat without the logo silkscreened on. Sometimes Lowe's or Home Depot will have this stuff called "Peel N' Seal" in the roofing section that is also effective and cheap.
BlackArtemis: A lot of people have used bedliners and/or rubberized undercoating as deadeners with success, although I haven't tried it myself. It would probably work well in the doors where it can be a little tedious to get the sheets in.
A sound damping material is not made to get rid of rattles or squeaks. It is made to absorb the vibrations of a panel, to help reduce the noise that is transmitted through it.
First you have to find the pieces that are making the noise and then work from there. A rattle is caused when two pieces vibrate against each other and cause a noise, and a squeak is when two pieces slide past each other to make a noise. To eliminate these noises you have to either stop the motion between the pieces making the noise, or put something between the pieces to stop the noise. In my car I eliminated all the rattles and squeaks by either putting a spacer cut from rubber, or some silicone caulk, between all the pieces making the noises. This was cheap and fairly easy to do and stopped noises that could not have been cured with a damping material.
Blackartemis: It's not too hard to take off the interior 1/4 panel. First, you need to unbolt the seatbelt where it mounts at the top with a T50 torx. Then the panel around the window is clipped in, so it just pulls out. Then for the bottom panel, there's a fastener holding it in place on the top. After that, there's a clip holding it in place in the front, right behind and about 8" or so up from the sill plate. Be careful when you take this one out, because the piece that holds the clip is fastened to the panel, it's not actually part of the panel, so it can rip out if you're not careful. Then there's just one or two more clips holding it in.
To help the rattles from the back, some 1/8-1/4" foam will help if you attach it underneath the rear shelf, where the rear seat and the panel attach to the front of the trunk, and where the panel mounts at the top. My door panels rattled a little bit, so after I deadened them, I used some 1/2" foam on top of that to get rid of the plastic rattling against the door. Silicone, like 302stang said, will also help to eliminate some rattles, it'll just smell for a day or two.

ok cool thanks alot, the sound deading isnt just for the squeeks, I have a whole kicker set up that I want to sound great, also my GF and parents are toing to hate the interior sound of my car once i get these longtubes and side exhaust kit on, I was thinking of taking out the interior and spraying a layer or two of some sound dampering material to keep the drone down.
