has anyone put sound deadening in their trunk and noticed if it reduced the exhaust noise inside of the vehicle? i have an american thunder catback w/mac hi flow catted h. i think it sounds great but it drowns out my music. thanks
I lined my entire trunk, all doors, under the rear seat, and part of the floor, all at the same time, and I noticed a big difference in exhaust noise. I dont know if lining just the trunk would do the trick or not. I am sure it couldnt hurt, but I dont know exactly how much it would help. I used, and always use, dynamat extreme, its really easy to work with, even though it is a little expensive, its worth it. I wouldnt go with a cheap alternative, like stuff made for roofing, because that can make the interior of the car smell like tar/crap. If you have any other questions, just post em, I am on here all the time and have applied sound deadening material several times.
It works to an extent, but don't expect too much. I did have good luck with putting down deadener on the floorboard, and especially under the rear seat. Helped a lot.
In my 67 coupe I've covered the floors, the inside of the door panels, the space behind the interior quarter panels and the firewall with sound dampening material - made a huge difference in road noise.
All the products I use are from Second Skin Audio - I've done tests between their products and Dynamat, and, imho, the Second Skin stuff has better dampening capabilities & is easier to work with (and cheaper too). I especially like a product of theirs called STFU-80 - that stuff is insanely effective.

I put 2 layers of second skin damplifier in my trunk/spare well. It really helps keep the music in the car (IOW, it's no where near as noisy outside the vehicle as it was, and the vibration is almost zero) - unfortunately, those 2 layers of damplifier did nothing to quiet the exhaust noise.
I'm doing a refit of my stereo (i keep putting it off....aaargh) in the next couple of weeks. I'll be pulling the seats out - and I'll be putting high-density carpet padding on the floor /under rear seats. My exhaust noise drives me nuts lately (but I *love* the way it sounds outside the car).
