My 01 gt has a catback magnaflow exhaust on it right now and stock cat pipe. If i go with a aftermarket x-pipe with cats is it going to be any louder or not? Also would I see any hp gains, I know they would be small to none. My other mods are 373 gear, short throw shifter, and kenne bell 6 # supercharger...thanks.......:SNSign:

A X pipe will make a raspy sound, not louder. If you want loud, don't use cats.

I have the same set up as you, - the KB. I like the way it sounds and, IMHO, it does not "rasp". If you want loud, then an aftermarket H-pipe will do that. On another note, being in IL, you may not pass inspection with a non-catted X (if your state does inspections).

x-pipe with cats or without will make your exhaust noticably louder. the x-pipe alone does not make your exhaust raspy, a lot of it has to do with what mufflers you are running. generally x-pipes do produce a higher tone than h-pipes. with the regular magnaflow cat-back i dont think it will sound bad at all.

Just buy the Magnapack mufflers to replace the regular Maganflow mufflers. I with I kept the maganpacks I had - changed them for the Roush side exiting exhaust which looks good, but has no sound.

I got my Magnapack Catback first. It was louder than stock and sounded good. A couple months later I got my Catted Bassani X. That was a night and day difference. It tripled the loudness of the exhaust. I was amazed. People are constantly telling me how mean my Mach sounds.

Summit has them for like $55ea. I'm thinking of switching to them from regular Magnaflows.

if it's a true bolt on catback then it should be easy but if they are welded then you have a problem and need to take it to a muffler shop

it will sound better. ditch the cats if you really want it to sound mean. since you have the KB already not sure if you will really feel the power too much. N/A you would have.

the x-pipe will scavenge better and you have decent power so I would proably try it. magnaflow is a bit tame with the stock midpipe. I would want to wake it up a bit. I would run the O/R pipe and keep the stocker if you need to pass emissions.

First - You can not just switch the MagnaFlow mufflers for the Magnapacks because the packs are straight in and out where as the flows have an offset for the entry and exit.

Second - I have packs with a catted X and it sounds amazing! The thing I really like about the cats is a) is that it takes lots of the poppy quality out of the sound. Check out this site for some really great sound clips of packs with the Magnaflow catted X (http://users.ev1.net/~spreadman/Pages/media.html) These clips are what sold me on my system.

Changine go an X pipe will def net you some horsepower. SLP and Magnaflow X pipes are proven to be the best for hp increases.

However having an X will give you a bit of "rasp". But its not bad, i like mine. An H-pipe will give you a "deep" sound, pretty much like you have on your car now. Aftermarket H-pipes would be the best for a deeper sound though of course. Try an MRT (expensive!!) H-pipe, i hear they are good.

And if you want LOUD exhaust, you will have to remove your cats.....or simply change your mufflers. My SLP "loudmouth" is quite loud =)
