hey All! Would the stock alternator in a 66 coupe be enough
to power an amp and a subwoofer? Any info would be appreciated!
have a great holiday...

Probably not. You're looking at only 35 amps at idle. You put an amp in there and you can forget it

I ran a full stereo and dual fans, fuel pump off the stock alternator for a long time, but i also had dual batteries and have since upgraded to a 100 amp 1 wire chevy alternator.

IMO its a very easy thing to do.I just went to a local rebuilder and had him build me one,it was about 90 bucks, use the main hot wire form the stock loom and that was it.

Piece of cake. Need to remove the belt, undo I think two bolts and remove the wires in back. Reverse process to install

as long as you run the stock size pulley,it should be the same belt,oh since your new to this,i reccommend disconnecting the battery, since the lead is hot,you dont want it arcing on anything

Getting back to his original question...is it necessary to upgrade his stock alternator? I just installed an Alpine HU, 300watt Alpine amp, 2 Pioneer kickpanel speakers and two 6x9 Infinity in the package tray. My system sounds and works fine and everything is stock.

Are you guys saying I'm going to have troubles? My car is a 65 with 64 wiring.

I dont think you have a problem, the amp you have is not very big and they dont draw a lot of power these days with the new circuitry.I have been doing audio for a long time and what you have a is a basic set up,shouldnt be a problem.

iskwezm, can you post pictures of your stereo. I'm wanting to build a box for the back of my 67 prostreet Mustang and looking for ideas. Sorry for the thread hijack.

Thanks sick! Wow. Is the access for the rear shocks in the trunk of the fast back too? If so, how did you handle the rear of the trunk? Currently I have a fiberboard trunk floor with a hinged lift.

yeah, the rear shcoks are accessed throught the seating area. The trunk was is all 1/4 fiberboard, one side holds the NOS bottle with a plexi window and the other side in the pics hides the dual batteries.I think all the materials cost about 30 bucks
