I had to install my spare tire on the passenger rear while getting the wheel refinished (pony wheel), when the time came to remove it the spare was almost press fit on the wheel hub. The result was I had to resorted to using a large pein hammer to remove the tire (several hard whacks) seriously damaging the spare (f***en stupid thing) and finally after failing with the hammer in the end using a puller. Question is could the hammering on the back of the wheel damage the rear end at all? I rotated the tires after..when I discovered the trac loc was shot, but all seemed fine. The car is in storage for the year so driving is not an option, but I worry my little handy work may have done some damage.

I really doubt it, i've seen wheels that take two good hard whacks with the 4lb sludge before they pop off.

It will not do any damage. Some wheels do this a lot. I work at a tire shop and this is how we get some of the wheels off (no other way). everyhitng should be good to go.

Good to hear, I was frustrated and figured it would be just so perfect if I had ended up trashing the back end over something like this. I do have to say a refinished pony wheel looks a1 when installed. My good friend owns a body shop and built up the road rash on the lip, painted and cleared the wheel (front and back), and the color is factory perfect, but the shine is blinding.
Thanks for the support..it really helps put my mind at ease.

yea it should be fine. i used to work at a shop and alot of times wheels were stuck on the hub and we would just kick it or push it off with both hands.

i prefer to run spare tires on the front (even if i have to jockey two wheels). as you have noticed, the trac lok takes a beating running different diameter tires in the rear (or was the TL shot already?).

Sure thing, and the opposite goes for a fwd car, put the tire on the rear if you can help it.

unless it is an open diff.
you are right on (point being to not rip the traction control device apart, whichever end it is on).
i guess AWD hi-po cars just call keep driving on the run-flats or call a flatbed.

Weirdest thing I ran into was the first flat I had on my GT. I still have my turbines with the long lug nuts. Well I don't know if someone had replaced the lug nuts are they came like this from the factory (which I assume isn't true) But anyway when I put the spare on the lug nuts bottomed out before they were tight against the spare! Luckily I discovered this only a mile from home. Now I carry a set of regular lugnuts in a little plastic bag back there with the spare.
