As per a fellow member, I tried what he did: Diablo tune with spark set to full advance. only he uses 87 octane and for safety im using 91. i couldnt hear any detonation, but the car sure did feel ALOT faster.

on my diablo diagostic, im running 15/16 spark adv. @idle and 22/23 during a run.

whats the optimum/good degree for my car - shes all stock? is what i did ok/safe?
 
If you're not having any pinging, then you probably don't have to worry about damaging anything. I do believe stock ignition timing is 10 degrees. The most you probably want to advance the timing in any rpm incriment level is to 16 degrees. I think after this you start to lose power. Not 100 percent sure on that though.
 
If you don't hear pinging, it doesn't necessaraly mean there is no detonation. Detonation can occur silently.

Also, I've used 91 octane with Predator tune with max advance spark. I couldn't hear anything, no pinging nothing.

Then I went to the track, at around 5000rpm, you start hearing pinging, but you're not sure because it could be rattles or your car's exhasut is too loud so I couldn't really be sure. But after many tries, I switched over to 94 octane, and the pinging is no longer there.
 
Also, remember that ambient temperature can increase the chance of detonation. If it is above 85F or so, you could see pinging that does not usually occur.

And also remember that pinging is a very bad thing especially for aluminum engines.

I will agree that detonation can occur, and not be heard. However, the ECU would more than likely pick up on it eventually, and trigger the SES light. I've been running advanced ignition timing on 87 octane now for over a year, and I've had no pinging or SES light. The tuner who tuned my car advanced the timing to be run with 93 octane, accordingly to the SCT tuner package. He also hooked up a Ford scan tool, and went for a ride with me. I floored it and everything, yet no detonation could be read, no pinging heard, and no SES. It all depends on the application and the specs of the situation.

How would the PCM "pick up on it"? Only Cobras have knock sensors. As far as I know, there is no way a GT PCM could respond to detonation...

I dont know, but I know the guy who was scanning the ECU told me he wasn't picking up any indication of any pinging. I don't know what he was reading then. I forgot about the whole knock sensor thing. Haven't heard that in years actually lol. There has to be some way the ECU could detect detonation, just not sure how exactly.

Anyone got any extra information on this ?
