hello, i picked up a half built 90 GT Mods are as follows

Ported stock heads
1.6 cranes
B-cam
Typhoon intake
CAI with 73mm MAF #30 with 30lbs injectors
Diablo chip
SHorty headers to straight pipes with flowmaster dumps
bbk 70mm TB

It was just dynoed a few weeks ago made 262HP/283TQ, seems OK

So i purchase the car few days ago, it pops and gurggles when i left off the gas. So i assume the spark is jacked up. Should i run a colder plug with this set up even though its pretty mild or just gets replacements? and what GAP. Should be used? Thank you

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

See http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
OR
See http://www.mustangworks.com/articles/electronics/eec-iv_codes.html

IF your car is an 86-88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 86-88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

For those who are intimidated by all the wires & connections, see http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 for what a typical hand scanner looks like. Normal retail price is about $30 or so at AutoZone or Walmart.

Or for a nicer scanner see http://www.midwayautosupply.com/detailedproductdescription.asp?3829 – It has a 3 digit LCD display so that you don’t have to count flashes or beeps.. Cost is $35.

Thats the problem the CEL isn't on. I put a new distributer,wires,02's it has a new TB so the TPS is new it was just dynoed/chipped 2 weeks pryor to me buying it with a dead even 13.5 A/F.

Now its running pig rich, If i turn on the a/c i can get high off the gas fumes coming thru the vents. Im at a loss here, only thing i havent replaced would be plugs which were black but i doubt that is the sole problem.

The CEL light does not have to be on for there to be codes stored in the computer.

The 30 lb injectors are way too big for a 302 with no power adders. The computer would have trouble trimming the injector pulse width to give a suitably lean mixture for street use.

The popping / backfiring is from unburnt gas igniting in your exhaust (FWIW)

Get some smaller injectors, check your timing

I think i'll just swap out the maf and injectors for some 24#'s and start from scratch

Did you check your timing with the PIP sensor unplugged? It should be around 10 Degrees (stock ) and usually up to 14 Degrees (tuned)
