So, I recently replaced my 6-disc in dash changer with the new Alpine CDA-9835. Following this, I noticed my component speakers weren't sounding too well. I'm trying to find out what the size of the speakers is. I have a 2001 Convertible with the Mach system, as previously noted (I think the coupe's have diff size speakers). I believe that the speakers are 5.25" components. However, I was told that 6.5" ones would fit. I was also told that rather then replacing the front and back speakers with components, that I should just replace the front ones with component speakers and the rear ones with normal speakers. So basically, I want to know what size is stock and what size will fit. I also want to know what some good sounding speakers are for around 200-300$ a pair. I'm not sure if I should use Alpine ones, to go with my head unit, or not.

I'm also looking into options for subs. I had a previous custom box made that held 3 Kicker Comp10's. and went in the trunk. However, it was never secured right so it always slid around whenever I took a turn too sharp, or accelerated too fast, so it happened more then not. I was wondering if there is a better setup someone knows about that sounds good and for a reasonable cost. Maybe a few truck boxes, or what not. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for the time.

First off, what did you do to replace your head unit? Did you buy a harness to send an unamplified signal to your amps or are you pushing an amplified signal into them? If you're doing that, it could cause problems. As far as replacing the speakers, check out http://www.flemworld.com under the Mach 460 section. I have an '01 with Mach 460 as well and have found it usefull. I'm actually waiting on a wiring harness to come in today to swap out the head unit on my '01 so I may have more info for you after the weekend. Let me know how it goes.

I do not know the measurements of the rears, I belive you are correct in that they are components in the rear though. As you said, you should just buy new very good components for up front and mid grade for the back. Depending on how good you want your stereo to sound. Rear speakers in most cars are just used for rear fill, so you do not need high quality back there unless you are anal about sound or are going to compete. Your front speaker cavities Are 5x7s. and if you have the mach system there is a tweeter in the door/window corner. As for mounting components in the front of the car there are many options. The easiest is to buy kick panels that fit the woofer and tweeter in them, there are a few companies that make them. The second option is to make them yourself out of fiberglass (very messy). Or you can do like I did and get a sheet of hard plastic and cut it just right so you can mount the plastic over the existing hole in the door. You would use a template from the woofer to cut a whole in the plastic and mount the speaker in the original door spot. For the tweeter, I just angle mounted them to the dash.

As for speaker selection. BOSTON ACOUSTICS Pro Series are awesome. I have the 6.5 system.

Other wise I would go with MB quart.
