I couldn't tell you since I don't have a vert, but it sounds like a pretty cool idea.

That is funny timing. I have a coupe but I just posted to the autosond part of Stangnet about putting some 6" JL's on the parcel deck and building a fiberglass enclosure under it.
You might try that part of the site.

I have 6.5's in the rear mounted to a 3/4" MDF baffle board under the dash. If you do the same setup but recess the baffle face an inch or so, you can mount the 8s without cutting anything and you would have a really nice solid baffle to keep them nice and dead.

EDIT: I just realized you said vert. I'm useless now.

LOL i know... was a good idea i got the wood... i wonder what the clearence is between the speaker and the plastic pannel... i might just be able to build up the stock location to create clearence.... might work with 6.5's but 8's on an amp might pound the plastic... lol

The rear speakers are in the b pillar on the vert so the top has no affect. If depth is a problem, you could cut a hole in the plastic panel and mount the speaker to that instead of the metal frame that the factory 6x8 is mounted to.

You would likely have to fab a stand off plate to clear the frame and contour to the plastic curves but it should work.

Once you get everything done and the speaker mounted, I would use some expanding rivets instead of screws, JMO.
