I see a lot of guys around here with mild bolt-ons running the Spec stage II clutch. They say the Stage one is good for 400hp. Can anyone here tell me why I need a stage II clutch when I am only going to be running just under 300rwhp after my swap my HCI? The diff in price is over 100 bucks! THX

Too much clutch is not a good thing. It truly does affect performance. If you are going to be happy with a 300 horsepower car, I would stay with the stage I.

Just don't get the stage 3, it doesn't have a monsels (sp) spring to cushion the shock of power on the drivetrain like most other diaphram clutches do and this can lead to a lot of headaches liek broken input shafts, etc. I'd NEVER even concider the stage 3. I'm going with a pro-motion custom clutch setup here shortly and its the same if not cheaper than the spec stuff. I don't know what flywhee you run and what the material in the spec disc is made of, but stay with an organic type material in the flywheel side fi you are running the stock flywheel as metalic type disc will chew up the stock iron flywheel.

to further what killercanary said, i'm using a billet steel Ram flywheel. the clutch affects performance because the better clutch you go with , the more clamping force it has, there by keeping slip to a minimum and putting more power to the tires. on the flip side, it shocks the drivetrain harder and again like killercanary said, can lead to broken parts.

I agree with this, anything is better than stock and stage three unless your
high horse is overkill. Stage one will work, but then it limited to 300hp go with
the #2 than you are set and will not be wishing you went better and will handle any extra mods in the future. Make sure you have the flywheel
machined or you may be sorry. It is a good idea to change any small things
you can while it is apart anyway, it will save you labor if anything should
go after you replace the clutch, and it needs to be taken apart again.
Just something to consider.

Stage I is good for up to 410 lb ft of torque
Stage II is good for up to 520 lb ft of torque

SPEC I & II

Stage I appears to have an organic disc while the Stage II is Kevlar.

I am probably being optimistic expecting just under 300rwhp and definitely less than 400 for torque. Performance wise, what is to be lost by NOT getting the stage II?

i got the Stage 1 and am happy. I know i wont have over 400lb ft of torque any time soon and when i do my stock tranny will go. SO when that time comes i will upgrade the tranny and clutch.

If you have the money get the stage II, im 19 and on a budget being in college.....i got the stage 1. GREAT CLUTCH...no chatter and a great bite

How is the pedal feel? Is it easier or harder to push down than a stock clutch? I'm considering either the Spec Stg I/II or a King Cobra when mine goes.
