Spec Stage2 and aluminum flywheel??

Purchased Spec Stage2 clutch with aluminum flywheel. Installing this weekend, anything I should be aware of when doing the clutch has anyone ran into any problems? Car has around 40,000 miles I'll be changing the trans fluid any recemendations on fluids. Should I change the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing to be on the safe side?

I prefer to swap TOB bearings with the new clutch, most of the SPEC kits come with them although I am not sure for the 05+. Look at the pilot bearing, swap if needed. Just make sure you inspect the bearing retainer on the trans, put a small amount of grease on it and the splines when you install. You may want to add some ARP flywheel bolts, and use Blue loctite on the PP bolts...

Don't forget to check to make sure the flywheel is the right balance, some still have the weights installed on the back...although yours should be zero.

The clutch may chatter for the first 400-600 miles, just break it in properly and you'll be very happy with it.

The only problems I've heard of are with the clutch itself.

A lot of people say the only Spec clutch to go with is the 3+.

Once you get Stage 3 and higher they are pretty aggressive and can be hard on trannies, even if you go 6 puck. The more heat you put in them, the harder they grip.

Have had the SPEC Stage 2+ for over 2 years now...no problems

Just go to Ford and order the stock concentric slave cylinder (that's what we have on the S197's. The TOB is part of it). The stock piece is good, it's just recommended to replace when changing the clutch out.

I agree, I've heard the 3+ is really the only one worth a crap. That's what I went with. It engages quick, but still has a little slip. Pedal pressure is the same as stock. But, that said, I trust Heavy's opinion as well.

Rock Auto also has good pricing on the OEM slave cylinder. Don't ask them for a TOB, as many of us refer to it as, because they will tell you that they do not have one since it's listed as a slave cylinder. I'd recommend using the OEM slave cylinder just because of reliability issues with the aftermarket adjustable ones like them leaking, etc. Also, another good clutch is the Roush P51 which is manufactured by Exeedy to Roush's specs and uses the factory pressure plate and slave cylinder. It's been holding up to a ton of abuse in my car with 525 rwhp and 501 rwtq.

i went through 3 of the spec 3+ on my naturally asparated v6. all three of them gave in 3rd gear, and the pressure plate bands would break. i now have a centerforce dual friction and have had no problems. i'm waiting on my fidanza aluminum flywheel to come in. we will see how that goes. lol good luck with what ever you decide. although, shelby uses the spec in thei v8s and centerforce for their
v6s. maybe they know something?

I've decided to stick with the Spec 2+ and the aluminum spec flywheel bought them used with 400 miles from a friend that blew his motor, clutch and flywheel are in perfect shape. For $200 bucks ill see how it works lol. If don't hold the 450 ftlb the car is making with the Saleen then ill spend the money and get something beefy. Slave cylinder and piolot bearing from rockauto.com for $135 couldnt find anyone local to beat their prices.. Thanks again for all the info guys.
