when changing to 3.73's on a 2002 gt is a speedcal or handheld your only options or is there a cheap gear 23(?) tooth thingy that will work in its place? id rather spend 15 bucks than 100. also, how much would the speedo be off if you DIDNT change it.

thanks...tony

You'll need the speedcal or a tuner to change the speedo. Pearl02.

3.73's will throw the spedo off by 13%. You arre actually going 13% slower than with the 3.27's. Pearl02.

I just had my frpp 3.73's installed on my 04 gt. I'm a cop so i hooked up with a buddy and he constantly got me on radar running an avg. of 9 mph slower than what the speedo said. On your 02 you should be able to take it to a good dealer and they can reflash the gear ratio for you. A buddy of mine is a Ford tech and he tried it, but something in the 04's ford changed and it locked him out from being able to change it. So in my case the only thing I can do is get a handheld.

Ask the shop that installs the gears for you to do it.

A cop with a GT, cool! How do those Crown Vic's run with the police package? I was talking to a Ford tech and he claims that ford has a "special" computer performance package for the police cars. Just wondering. Pearl02.
