I worked on a guys car, swapped in a set of TFS heads, Comp 270HR 112* center model, 24 # inj, headers, etc

Car runs great at first but then loads up on fuel after about 10mins or after idleing and a brief drive. I know the best thing is to swap to MAF, I have a feeling it is not liking that cam. However is there any way around running rich down low on a SD car, I know some of you guys have come up with some wild stuff.

At this point we are planning to swap it to MAF(we knew it would be iffy before the mods but I have seen guys run fairly aggreesive cams with them and get by, some do some don't) but I figured I asked the weather is nice, the car is freshly painted (beautiful) and he really wants to drive it.

I'd say the 24# injectors are to blame. The comp thinks it has 19's and is squirting too much fuel. The cam isn't helping either.

Honestly, at this point, you either need Mass Air or need to go get a custom chip burned.

yea i agree with him.. it needs to be a complete setup lol.. most likely the MAF because you can get it setup for 24 #.. my car has it and it runs like a top

Mike that is the same thing I am thinking, a blower is in the future so a MAF upgrade is the best option. Just thought I'd ask....

Check the ACT sensor and O2 sensors for proper range. If it's only rich once it warms up, either one of those two can be the culprit. The SD computer should be able to trim a set of 24 lbs injectors at idel and part throttle. I've had great success putting 24s on SD cars while there were a few that would just run on them worth damn. You didn't say what lower intake he was using or if it even has a provisions for an ACT. If it doesn't, then I'd say that that's got a good chance of being the culprit. If the ACT is installed in a location other than it's intended stock location, that can also be a problem. The cooler that ACT thinks the air charge is, the richer the fuel mixture is going to be. Lemme know how it turns out!

Andy, stock intake still and all the sensor's check out fine.. It loads up even when stone cold, I think this is just one of those SD cars that don't like the new found power I've put 24# inj and many other parts on SD cars as well with no issues, however this is the most aggresive cam I've ever installed but it is what he had and wanted. We knew we may have to swap...

He took it out right after the plug swap and it ran great at 4000rpm, but loads up on fuel bad, Plugs are beyond black...

So are you welding yet? I'll check back in awhile, have to finish up N8Millers car....

Nope... not welding yet. I'm waiting for a nice safe project to practice on. lol I didn't figure that welding my control arm mounts would be a good place to start.

What kind of vac reading are you gettting from that cam?

You probably did this but I'll say you should be sure the MAP is on a dedicated line and that there is no vacuum leak in the MAP line - I had trouble once and the line to the MAP was loose at the MAP connection.
