Do our cars have a speed limiter? If so, what is the limit set at? The fastest I've achieved in my car is 120mph. I could have gone faster but ran out of road. So I know its not limited to 100.

I don't think there is a speed limiter, we are drag limited. I have an '03 'Vert 5 speed with 373's and hit 140 on a LONG strech of interstate 80. Got scared and slowed down. I had the top down, which made it even more scarier. I think there was a little bit more left though.

I bought my car used with 18,000 miles on it. 2001 GT 5-spd As far as I know it had no modifications as far as computer chip. I have hit 145 and more left but ran out of road. From what I have heard the computer program from factory retards the timing after a certain mph. I noticed something like this. It pulled hard to 120 and then faded while acheiving 145. I was told this was done, this is what I heard, that the Mustang would woup cop cars. I don't know if that is true or not.

well most cop cars (around here at least) come equipped with our SOHC 4.6 motor, so i doubt a stock GT would 'spank' the po-9. they cop cars do have a lot of wieght to them and probably have smaller alternator pulleys to support all of the electronics

I hit 147 once, still had some left, but the three cop cars behind us slowed me down. :-\

99/00 GT's that came stock with 16" rims have a 125 MPH or so limiter. The stock tires were H rated, so Ford put in a limiter at the H tire rated speed.

teh lose for me
It sucks getting your car dyno'd and it cuts out at 125 MPH, ~ 5400 RPM

Only governor the Bullitt has on it is HP and aerodynamic drag at about 147.

I have a 2001 GT auto. Hit 125 on stretch through Kansas just to get through there, but had a strong cross wind that made slow back down.

Same motor, but not the same HP rating. The motors in the police crown vics are 239HP and 287TQ. (base models are only 224HP)

The crown vic is heavy too. WIth all the police equipment andlight bars and bumper pushers and spotlights, they are heavy and very unaerodynamic. I've spoken with several police officers that say their cruisers are slow, especially top end. They struggle after 100MPH. I think they are geared with 3.55's or so and they can get up and go from a dead stop, but fade top end.

03 GT Pulls hard to 130 (ok not that hard after 120 or so) any way I've had it past 150 going down hill on a 6 mile stretch. Just saying it goes that fast is fine by me I'll stick to below 110

IMO, over 120 in an otherwise stock stang is a deathwish. Hell, 100+ is a handful.

My friends dad is the Police sgt. and police driving instructor here.

The Impala is actually quicker than the Crown Vic (obvious) but both are only good for like 125mph. Even the LS1 B4C (Z28) was good for the higher 140's due to all of there crap in/on it.
