Speed limiter on '04 2v?

Have you done a gear swap to the rear by chance? With 3.27's, a '99-'04 Mustang will top out in 4th gear, but not in 5th. But....if you swap out to a set of shorter gears like 3.73 and higher (numerically) you'll run out of gear in 4th, but will still lack the power to pull it in 5th.

My old 5.0L was faster in 4th gear with the stock 2.73's in it than it was with the 3.55's. It would burry 1:1 4th gear ratio pretty easily, but still not make enough power to pull the .68:1 5th gear all the way out to redline.
Nope, I still have stock 3.27s. Once I went into 5th, it pulled for about 2-3 more mph, then quit. I really think there is a speed limiter, like the members said.

And to the original poster...YOU CARRIED IT OUT TO 6K! In freggin 4th? Im sure it took forever just setting at 5800-6K for a long time....well I guess you know your engine is sound now lol. But hey, iv been to 6300-6400 in 4th with my gears and cams (127ish)...but it doesnt hang around if you know what I mean. SO im guilty too.
Yeah, it sounded like some NASCAR screaming at 8k-9k. I think it was more like 5800 in 4th, not 6k. Same difference.

i think the computers limit them to 151, and the cobras are limited to 155.

I hit 145 in mine, and it still felt like it had some left.

but as it was stated above, im sure these cars are'nt correctly calibrated for those kind of speeds, maybe off by as much as 10mph.

there was a thread on SN a while back about this subject...There is a rev limiter on the GT's and it is around 140..however with the diablo u can take it off and the car can go apprx. 170-175. You might wanna search for it. Y you would want to go that fast is beyond me though.

175 is pretty impressive...The damn thing will probably fly away without any downforce mods though.

No way in hell I'd go this fast on the streets, that's why I mentioned the salt flats a couple posts above.

:nonono: There are NO speed limiters on the cars that came with 17inch rims from the factory....the only GTs that were speed limited were the ones that came with 16inch alloys due to the speed rating on the tires...it was like 125.
I bieve the Machs are limited at 155 because they actually CAN hit that...03 cobras limit at like 158 I believe.
The GT can not go over 155 in stock form, so there was no need for them to place a limit on the cars. (I think the 05s top at 145 or 148 due to a speed limiter)
