"Speed sensor"?

Some cars have a VSS (vehicle speed sensor). If yours is so-equipped, it will have a device that bolts/plugs into the tranny that has a computer harness connection on it; and the speedo cable will plug into the VSS device. If not, your speed cable will go directly into the tranny. So just look underneath at that part of the tranny and you'll see if yours has a VSS or not - then you can order the proper cable.

The VSS signal causes the computer to increase the idle speed via the IAB as you slow to a stop. This is how it helps prevent stalling at lights & stop signs.

jrichker - as an aside - my IAB/ecu does that with no VSS; so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Diablo - if you have a VSS there should be two computer harness connections on the tranny. One is near the front and it's the neutral indicator connector. The other is the VSS - it's on the same side as the neutral switch, but further back on the tranny.

Just crawl underneath (driver's side) with a light. If the speedo cable plugs straight into the tranny, then you don't have a VSS. If there's a device with an electrical connection on it in between the tranny and the speedo cable - that's your VSS.

Maybe that is the reason why my cruise doesn't work! I replaced my speedo cable and there was no VSS. It just went right into the tranny. Awesome, I'll have to check that out tomarrow!
