I've gotta change out my speedo cable on my 87GT, never done it before. I was wondering if anyone in here has and if it's going to be a big pain in the ass or anything. Also my Tach is spinning around all crazy and stuff, sometimes it doesn't even move, haven't messed with it either, anyone had that problem? I plan on getting an autometer, but in the mean time, it's more annoying than anything.

The tach is electric, it has a plug that clips into the back of the instrument cluster. Sounds like the ground connections on the plug/tach might be giving you intermitent current .... although buying a 140mph cluster out of a 90-93 wrecker wouldn't be such a bad move at this point either ....

The speedo is fairly straight forward ... you prolly want to remove the 4 bolts holding the drivers seat down and get it out of your way.

Then you can lay on your back and reach (snake) your hand up onto the speedo cable and un-clip it from the cluster once the instrument bezel, knee panels and steering column plastics are out of the way...

The best way to find this all out is doing a heater core install where you have to gut half the interior plus dash to get the job done Best way to kill a weekend

ha ha ha, cool. Well, the car came with the 140 speedo, so that's already out of the way. But thanks a lot for the rest! Oh yeah...and I get to do a heater core swap on my 95, so that'll be loads of fun!

just pull the whole cluster off and leave the seat in. that way you can work sitting down . you're going to have to unclip it from the speedo sensor on the tranny first and then pull it through the dash because if you try it the opposite way, the plug that goes into the cluster is way too big. the only PITA about this is trying to find the hole in the fireway again when u put the new one in. oh you, unscrew the bracket in the engine bay down in the inner driver's side fender because it holds the speedo cable away from the headers or anything else.

There wasn't enough slack to reach the cable from the top when I pulled mine, so I reached up from the bottom. Plus it only takes maybe 5 minutes to remove the seat, if you hafta go that route.

You're gonna love doing the '95
