i have a tranny im trying to help a friend with over the internet but im a little baffled about something with it. its an AOD from a 86 bird, but where the speedo cable is supposed to go, a plug is there with a few wires hanging out. can that just be removed and a cable be put in its place??

It evidently had an electronic speedometer. You can use a speedo gear from a Mustang of the same year or later up to 93. You can use a mechanical speedometer from whatever you can get to fit. Then you'll need a trip to speedometer shop to get it calibrated.
